Head of Social — Echelon Media

Location: Tiptree, Colchester, Essex
Reports to: Managing Director
Type: Full-time, permanent

About Echelon Media

Echelon Media is an independent digital marketing agency based in Colchester. We’re a close-knit team of around seven, delivering SEO, web design, paid media, content and social media for clients across a range of sectors. Everyone here is hands-on — including the founders — and the work is varied, fast-moving and genuinely collaborative.

The Role

We’re looking for a Head of Social to own our social media offering end to end — organic and paid. You’ll set the strategic direction for client accounts, build and manage paid social campaigns that deliver measurable return, produce and oversee the content that goes out, and grow social into a stronger commercial pillar of the agency. This is a senior role in a small team, so it’s equal parts strategy and delivery — you’ll be shaping the approach and doing the work.

Key Responsibilities

Paid social

Own paid social end to end for client accounts — strategy, build, optimisation and reporting
Plan and manage campaigns across Meta Ads Manager, TikTok Ads, LinkedIn Campaign Manager and Pinterest
Manage client budgets, forecast spend and take accountability for ROAS, CPA and lead quality
Build audience, targeting and testing frameworks; run structured creative and copy testing
Produce or direct ad creative — static, video and UGC-style — and iterate based on performance
Handle tracking and measurement: Meta Pixel, Conversions API, UTMs and platform-to-analytics attribution
Work with the wider paid media team to align social with search and ensure full-funnel consistency
Present paid performance to clients with clear commercial narrative and next-step recommendations

Organic social & content

Develop and own organic strategies across Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and emerging platforms
Manage content calendars, approvals and scheduling across all accounts
Brief and direct photo/video shoots; edit or oversee editing of short-form video
Use organic performance to inform paid creative, and vice versa

Client leadership

Act as the senior social contact for clients — leading reviews, presenting performance, and advising on direction
Identify growth opportunities within existing accounts and support new business pitches
Set KPIs, track performance and produce clear client-facing reporting across both paid and organic
Feed social insight into quarterly reviews and wider account strategy

Team & process

Line-manage and mentor social team members, junior staff and freelancers
Build and improve internal processes, templates and ways of working
Keep the agency ahead on platform changes, ad format releases, algorithm shifts and cultural trends

About You

Essential

4+ years in social media, with at least some experience in an agency environment
Demonstrable hands-on paid social experience — you’ve built, run and optimised campaigns yourself, not just briefed them out
Comfortable managing client budgets and being held to performance targets
Strong grasp of tracking, attribution and measurement across platforms
A track record of running multiple client accounts and delivering measurable results
Strong content instincts — you can write, shoot, edit and know what performs organically and as paid creative
Confident presenting and building relationships with clients directly
Organised, self-directed and able to prioritise across competing accounts

Desirable

Meta Blueprint or equivalent platform certification
Experience line-managing or mentoring
Familiarity with how social interacts with SEO and wider digital strategy
Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or similar
Experience with GA4 and project management tools (we use ClickUp)
