Job description
As a collaborative member of the nursery team, you will deliver flexible, high-quality education and care that meets the needs of young children and their families. With guidance, you will ensure compliance with all company policies, Health and Safety regulations, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, and requirements set by the Government and regulated by Ofsted. A passion for messy play, singing in an engaging high-pitched voice, reciting countless nursery rhymes, and enjoying outdoor activities is essential.

Accountabilities
- Develop high-quality interactions that enhance children’s learning and thinking.
- Plan, prepare, and participate in a variety of activities that address each child’s physical, intellectual, and emotional needs, enabling them to reach their full potential.
- Ensure that the planned activities are based on the children’s next steps, observations, and interests, as required by the EYFS framework.
- Make sure the environment is well-organised, and that resources are presented in an engaging manner and are easily accessible.
- Supervise meals and mealtimes, ensuring they are opportunities for pleasant social interaction.
- All staff should sit with their key children whenever possible to promote a sociable atmosphere.
- Encourage all children, where appropriate, to use cutlery, serve themselves, and sit at tables during meal and snack times, as this supports their learning and development.
- Assist children in acquiring self-help skills, including dressing, feeding, toilet training, and understanding personal hygiene, as these are essential elements of their learning and development.
- Act as the primary caregiver for a group of children by observing, monitoring, and accurately recording each child's individual development.
- Ensure that each key child has an accurate and up-to-date record of their learning and achievements.
- Implement positive behaviour management strategies for children.
- Engage in reflective practice to enhance and improve personal skills and the working environment.
- Serve as a positive role model for students and volunteers.
- Contribute to the establishment and maintenance of effective relationships with parents and other agencies.
- Support transitions within the nursery and to mainstream schools.
- Assist in the daily management of the nursery, ensuring it is safe, secure, and clean always.
- Be prepared to help with snack preparation, meal preparation, cleaning equipment, and laundry as needed.
- Collaborate with colleagues to create a cohesive nursery team, actively participating in all nursery-related activities.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of playrooms and equipment, ensuring everything is properly stored after activities.
- Work under supervision to maintain records and documentation that comply with statutory requirements.
- Be aware of and comply with the nursery’s child protection policy, confidentiality procedures, and other policies and procedures.
- In consultation with the Room Manager and Assistant Room Manager, help identify suitable care plans for accommodating children with special educational needs.
- Ensure quality handovers to parents at pick-up times in accordance with established collection procedures.
- To share in the responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children in the nursery.
- To ensure that all cleaning records are written and filed for evidence.
- To report and record all accidents and incidents, and to be aware of all risk assessments within the nursery.
- To implement the necessary Health and Safety, fire, accident and emergency procedures in accordance with Sandytots policies.
- To report any signs of illness, neglect or apparently non-accidental injury directly to the Room supervisor/ Assistant or a senior member of the management team.
- Providing comfort and warmth to a poorly child, ensuring that the senior team is made aware of the child’s progress.
- To assist in the organisation of the room and help to ensure that the staff/child ratios are always maintained.
- To liaise with colleagues when finishing a shift, advising them of any information that is to be relayed to parents when the child is collected from nursery.
- To attend staff meeting as arranged by the room supervisors and senior nursery team. Participate in regular parents’ evenings, open weekends and children’s outings.
- Keep up to date with developments in childcare through regular training as appropriate.

You may be required to perform duties appropriate to the post, other than those given in the job specification.
