Stock Controller & Procurement Operative

About the Role
We are seeking an organised, reliable and proactive Stock Controller & Procurement Operative to join our manufacturing team in Hednesford.
We specialise in the manufacture of communication antennas and associated components, supplying products where quality, accuracy and reliable material availability are essential.
This is a varied role combining stock control, purchasing and procurement, working closely with our production, engineering and warehouse teams to ensure the materials and components required for manufacturing are available when needed.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, have excellent attention to detail and be confident communicating with suppliers and colleagues across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
- Maintain accurate stock records for raw materials, components, consumables and finished products.
- Monitor stock levels and identify purchasing requirements.
- Ensure materials are available to support production schedules.
- Carry out regular stock checks and assist with stocktakes.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies.
- Record stock receipts, issues, transfers and adjustments accurately.
- Monitor excess, obsolete and slow-moving stock.
- Work closely with the warehouse and production teams to maintain efficient material flow.
- Identify potential material shortages before they impact production.
- Manipulate product usage data to build accurate demand forecasts.
Procurement & Purchasing
- Raise purchase orders for materials, components and consumables.
- Obtain quotations and compare pricing, lead times and availability.
- Place orders with approved suppliers.
- Liaise with suppliers regarding prices, availability, specifications and delivery dates.
- Monitor outstanding orders and proactively chase delayed deliveries.
- Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records.
- Assist in resolving incorrect, damaged or incomplete deliveries.
- Support supplier performance reviews and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Help identify opportunities to reduce purchasing costs without compromising quality or delivery.
- Develop positive and professional relationships with key suppliers.
- Identify and cultivate relationships with potential new suppliers.
Manufacturing Support
- Work closely with production and planning to understand upcoming material requirements.
- Ensure components and materials are available in line with manufacturing schedules.
- Monitor long-lead-time items and ensure orders are placed sufficiently in advance.
- Communicate any potential shortages or supply issues to the relevant teams.
- Assist with investigating material-related production issues.
- Work with engineering and production where clarification of component specifications is required.
- Support continuous improvement projects relating to stock management, procurement and production efficiency.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience in stock control, purchasing, procurement, materials planning or a similar role.
- Experience within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
- Strong attention to detail and numerical accuracy.
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing with suppliers.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple requirements.
- A proactive approach to resolving problems and preventing production delays.
Desirable
- Experience within electronics, electrical, engineering or communications manufacturing.
- Experience purchasing technical components or materials.
- Experience using an ERP, MRP or stock management system.
- Understanding of manufacturing BOMs, part numbers and engineering specifications.
- Experience negotiating with suppliers.
- ISO Compliant.
