Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Welder Fabricator Charge Hand to oversee and execute welding and fabrication tasks within our workshop. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership qualities, technical expertise in various welding techniques, and a comprehensive understanding of fabrication processes. This role involves supervising a team, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency in all projects undertaken. The successful applicant will play a pivotal role in maintaining our reputation for precision engineering and craftsmanship. This is a hands on role that combines workshop leadership with practical fabrication and welding duties. The successful candidate will be responsible for running jobs from start to finish, supervising and supporting workshop personnel, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard, while also remaining actively on the tools.
- Perform advanced MIG, TIG and MMA welding, ensuring adherence to technical specifications and safety standards
- Fabricate components from sheet metal, structural steelwork and pipework using hand tools, power tools, and specialised fabrication equipment
- Assemble welded parts accurately, maintaining high-quality workmanship throughout the process
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to guide fabrication activities
- Conduct quality inspections on completed work to verify compliance with specifications
- Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing health and safety regulations and best practices
- Assist in training junior staff members to develop their welding and fabrication skills
- Organise workflow efficiently to meet project deadlines whilst maintaining quality standards
- Carry out quality checks and ensuring work meets company and client specifications.
- Liaising with management regarding project progress and resourse requirements
Requirements
- Proven experience in MIG, TIG and MMA welding, with a strong background in welding techniques in carbon steel and stainless steel
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and specialised fabrication equipment such as shears, presses, and grinders
- Solid understanding of sheet metal work, structural steelwork, pipework and assembly processes
- Mechanical knowledge coupled with the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics
- Basic mathematical skills for measurements, calculations, and quality control purposes
- Experience in fabricating components from various materials including metals used in structural or industrial applications
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to supervise a team effectively
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail to ensure precision in all tasks
- Relevant certifications or qualifications in welding or fabrication are desirable but not essential
