Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Health Care Assistant to join our team. This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and making a meaningful difference in people’s lives. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing health education, advice, and support to patients, while assisting the clinical team in delivering evidence-based care to the highest standards.

Working under the direction and supervision of a Lead Nurse or General Practitioner, the Health Care Assistant will support the medical and nursing team by carrying out procedures in line with Practice protocols. The post holder will be expected to conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times, consistently reflecting the values and standards of a healthcare professional.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by healthcare workers may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Managers, dependent on current and evolving Practice workload and staffing levels:

Provision of health education advice and support about smoking, alcohol, exercise, diet, sun and safe sexual practices
Encourage patients to attend screening programmes available to them, with reference to structured education programmes and patient action plans
Repeat blood pressure monitoring in accordance with protocols
ECGs upon request by healthcare professional
Baseline measurements such as height, weight, blood pressure, urinalysis, waist circumference, BMI’s and pulse oximetry
New patient health checks, CVD health screening, well women or men checks
Phlebotomy
Assistance in vaccination clinics such as administration of seasonal influenza and Pneumoncoccal polysaccharide with relevant and appropriate documentation
Stock control and ordering
Monitoring and control of vaccine fridges
Maintenance of clinical equipment and organising for regular servicing
Keeping work area clean and tidy in accordance with Infection Control protocols
Appropriate disposal of sharps waste
Awareness and compliance to Health & Safety and Infection Control requirements
