We are looking for somebody with existing joinery or carpentry experience who wants to develop a specialist, high-end skillset within the bespoke staircase industry.
This is not a standard bench joinery or site carpentry role. We design, manufacture and install bespoke architectural staircases across the UK, working with timber, steel and glass to create one-off feature staircases for high-end homes and commercial projects.
The starting salary reflects that this is a training and development role. You will work directly alongside experienced fitters, learning a niche trade and progressing towards running your own installation team in the future. For the right person, this is a long-term career opportunity with genuine progression.
The role
- Assisting with the installation of bespoke staircases and balustrades across the UK
- Learning specialist installation techniques from experienced fitters
- Working with timber, steel and glass components
- Travelling nationwide and staying away from home when required
- Problem solving on site and maintaining extremely high standards of finish
- Progressing towards leading your own fitting team
What we’re looking for
- Previous joinery or carpentry experience is essential
- Someone who wants to learn a specialist trade rather than general site work
- Good attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Reliable, hardworking and willing to learn
- Comfortable working away from home regularly
- Positive attitude and able to work well within a team
- Full UK driving licence preferred
What we offer
- Structured training alongside experienced staircase installers
- Overtime pay available
- TOIL (Time Off In Lieu) available
- Clear progression opportunities
- Opportunity to lead your own installation team in the future
- Nationwide projects with a growing company
- Friendly, hardworking team environment
At First Step Designs, every staircase is bespoke — no repetitive new-build work, no “off the shelf” installs. We are looking for somebody who genuinely wants to develop their skills and build a long-term future within a specialist area of joinery.
To apply, please send your CV along with a short introduction about yourself and your experience.
