Job Overview
We are seeking a friendly and organised Counter Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, managing transactions efficiently, and ensuring the smooth operation of the counter area. This role offers an opportunity to develop valuable skills in communication, merchandising, and sales within a dynamic environment. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are highly desirable to assist a diverse customer base. The position is paid and suitable for individuals who thrive in fast-paced settings and enjoy engaging with people.

Responsibilities

Greet customers warmly and assist them with their purchases or enquiries
Operate the cash register accurately, handling payments via cash, card, or digital methods
Provide information about products and services, upselling where appropriate to enhance customer experience
Maintain organised and well-stocked displays through effective merchandising techniques
Manage phone calls professionally, providing clear information and redirecting enquiries as needed
Ensure the counter area remains clean, tidy, and welcoming at all times
Handle customer complaints or concerns courteously, escalating issues when necessary
Assist with stock organisation and inventory checks to ensure product availability

Experience

Previous experience in retail or customer service is advantageous but not essential; training will be provided
Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish is a plus
Basic maths skills for handling transactions accurately
Organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently and prioritise effectively
Excellent time management to ensure prompt service during busy periods
Phone etiquette skills for professional communication with customers over the phone
Ability to work well within a team and independently as required
Multilingual or bilingual candidates will have an added advantage in serving diverse customers
