Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated School Caretaker to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and maintenance of our educational premises. The successful candidate will play a vital role in creating a welcoming and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the smooth running of the school by maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety across all areas.

Duties

Conduct regular inspections of school premises to identify maintenance or safety issues
Carry out cleaning duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and waste disposal
Perform minor repairs and organise repairs with external contractors when necessary
Ensure all heating, lighting, and plumbing systems are functioning correctly
Monitor security systems and ensure all entrances and exits are secure after hours
Maintain outdoor areas such as playgrounds, sports fields, and car parks in good condition
Manage stock levels for cleaning supplies and maintenance equipment
Respond promptly to emergency situations such as fire alarms or security breaches
Assist with setting up rooms for events or examinations as required

Skills

Proven experience in building maintenance or caretaking roles is desirable
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
Good communication skills to liaise with staff, contractors, and suppliers
Ability to undertake basic repairs and maintenance tasks independently
Knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to school environments
Reliable with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Physical fitness to perform duties that may involve lifting, moving equipment, or working outdoors in various weather conditions
