Your next role

We're looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate and motivated Housing Officer – Prevention to join our Housing Prevention and Communities Team.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference by preventing tenancy breakdown and homelessness through early intervention, practical support and person-centred case management. Working with residents facing financial hardship, safeguarding concerns, hoarding behaviours or other complex circumstances, you'll help people sustain safe, secure and successful tenancies.

You'll manage a varied caseload, undertaking detailed assessments, developing tailored support plans and providing advice on budgeting, welfare benefits, debt management and financial inclusion. Working collaboratively with colleagues across Housing and with external statutory and voluntary organisations, you'll co-ordinate effective support that improves outcomes for residents.

The role involves regular home visits, risk assessments, safeguarding, partnership working and proactive intervention to resolve issues before they escalate. You'll also contribute to service improvements, maintain accurate case records and ensure all work reflects our strengths-based, trauma-informed approach.

We're looking for someone with:

Experience of working directly with customers in a housing, support, advice or similar environment.
Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.
Experience of managing a varied caseload and working independently.
An understanding of housing legislation, welfare benefits and tenancy sustainment, or the willingness to develop this knowledge.
The ability to build positive relationships with residents, colleagues and partner agencies.
Strong IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
A commitment to delivering excellent customer-focused services and improving outcomes for vulnerable residents.

You must be fluent in the English language (as required by Part 7 of the Immigration Act for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

The ability to travel throughout the Borough is required. The successful candidate must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle and appropriate business insurance.

The post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
