Job Description: Seasonal Groundsman
About Highgate House
Highgate House is a beautiful, historic venue situated in the picturesque village of Creaton. Our extensive grounds, woodland areas, and gardens are a core part of the guest experience, providing a stunning environment for everyone who visits. We are looking for a dedicated and hardworking Seasonal Groundsman to help us maintain our pristine outdoor spaces during our busiest months.
Role Overview
We are seeking an energetic and reliable Groundsman to join our maintenance team from June through October. In this role, you will be primarily outdoors, ensuring that the lawns, gardens, and pathways of Highgate House are immaculate, safe, and welcoming at all times. If you have a green thumb, enjoy working in the fresh air, and take pride in consistently maintaining high standards across outdoor spaces, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
- Lawn Care: Extensive grass cutting using both ride-on and push mowers, alongside edging and strimming to maintain neat borders.
- Hedge & Bush Maintenance: Routine bush cutting, hedge trimming, and pruning to keep foliage healthy and visually appealing.
- Planting & Weeding: Assisting with seasonal planting in flowerbeds and borders, as well as regular weeding and soil maintenance.
- Consistent Presentation: Sweeping pathways, clearing debris, and ensuring all outdoor areas are continuously maintained to a high, everyday standard for our guests.
- General Maintenance: Assisting our Maintenance Lead and the wider team with minor outdoor DIY, repairs, or property upkeep tasks as needed.
- Environmental Upkeep: Supporting the maintenance of our wider woodland areas and on-site biodiversity projects where required.
- Equipment Care: Performing basic daily maintenance and cleaning of gardening tools, mowers, and power equipment to ensure they remain in safe working order.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or professional gardening is highly preferred.
- General Maintenance Skills: While groundskeeping is the primary focus, any general DIY, handywork, or property maintenance experience would be a significant advantage.
- Equipment Knowledge: Confidence in safely operating standard groundskeeping equipment (mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers).
- Physical Fitness: The role is physically demanding and requires working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Attention to Detail: A keen eye for presentation and a genuine pride in keeping grounds looking their absolute best at all times.
- Reliability: Punctual, dependable, and capable of managing your daily tasks with minimal supervision.
- Transport: Due to our rural location in Creaton, a valid driving licence and your own transport are highly advantageous.

- Consistent hours (30–40 hours a week) throughout the summer and early autumn.
- All necessary uniform, safety gear (PPE), and top-quality equipment provided.
