Cornwall Football Development Lead & Head Coach

About the Role
Saints Southwest are looking for an ambitious, organised and enthusiastic Cornwall Football Development Lead & Head Coach to take responsibility for the delivery, development and continued growth of our football development programme across Cornwall.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about player development, high-quality coaching and creating outstanding football opportunities for young players.
The successful candidate will lead our existing Development Centres and Academy programmes, manage and support our coaching team, coach within our Academy programme and play a key role in expanding our provision across Cornwall.
Key ResponsibilitiesFootball Development Programme
- Lead the day-to-day delivery of our football development programme across Cornwall.
- Oversee our network of Development Centres and Academy programmes.
- Ensure players receive a consistently high-quality experience across all of our programmes.
- Continually review and improve the programme to provide the best possible development pathway for our players.
- Help identify opportunities to establish new Development Centres and programmes across Cornwall.
- Support the recruitment and retention of players throughout the programme.
Coaching & Player Development
- Act as a Head Coach within our Academy programme, delivering high-quality training sessions and matchday experiences.
- Create positive, challenging and enjoyable environments where players can develop.
- Ensure coaching across the programme follows the Saints Southwest coaching philosophy and player development pathway.
- Help identify talented players and ensure they are placed within the most appropriate environment for their development.
- Support the organisation of fixtures, festivals, tournaments and additional development opportunities.
- Work to create the best possible football programme and experience for every player.
Coaching Team Leadership
- Manage and support the Cornwall coaching team.
- Ensure coaches are delivering sessions to a consistently high standard.
- Provide feedback, mentoring and development opportunities for coaches.
- Help recruit and onboard new coaches as the programme expands.
- Build a positive coaching culture with high standards across all Cornwall programmes.
Programme Operations & Growth
- Oversee the effective operation of Development Centres and Academy programmes.
- Work with the wider Saints Southwest team to continually improve the programme.
- Identify new venues, locations and opportunities for expansion across Cornwall.
- Help develop relationships with grassroots clubs, schools, facilities and other local football organisations.
- Support communication with players and parents where required.
- Take ownership of growing the reach, reputation and quality of the Saints Southwest football development pathway across Cornwall.
Who We're Looking For

- Passionate about youth football and player development.
- An excellent and confident football coach.
- Organised and able to take ownership of a programme.
- Comfortable managing and supporting other coaches.
- Ambitious and motivated to grow football opportunities across Cornwall.
- A strong communicator with players, parents, coaches and partners.
- Proactive and able to identify opportunities rather than waiting for direction.
- Committed to maintaining high standards both on and off the pitch.
Qualifications & Experience
The successful candidate should ideally have:
- A recognised FA/UEFA coaching qualification.
- Experience coaching within youth football.
- Experience within a Development Centre, Academy or similar player-development environment.
- Experience leading or supporting other coaches.
- A good understanding of the grassroots and youth football landscape in Cornwall.
- Strong organisational and communication skills.
- An appropriate DBS check and safeguarding qualifications.
