Become a Buddy with AIBO – Paid Companionship in Crawley, West Sussex (3hrs per week)

Location: Crawley, RH10 6RS
Pay: £15 per hour (flexible, self-employed)
Hours: 2 hours per week to start (2x1hr visits - flexible any day except Fridays)
Age of applicants: 18 - 35 (we are intergenerational hence the range on age limits!)

About AIBO
AIBO is a UK social venture that matches young people, 18-35 (we call them Buddies) with elderly adults in their local area for paid companionship and light week-to-week help: things helping with technology, light household help, chatting over tea, going for a walk, or simply keeping someone company - it's basically anything a grandchild would do!

Our mission is to bridge generations, reduce loneliness, and bring some young bounce back into older people’s lives, while giving young people flexible, meaningful, and well-paid work that fits around study or other jobs.

About this role
We’re currently looking for a Buddy in Crawley to spend approx 2* hours per week *with an elderly lady who’d love some friendly companionship and light home help.

Culture/History
TV/Movies
Music
Fashion/Vintage style
Drawing / Painting / Crafts
Animal lover/wildlife

She used to be a cook at a London Hotel!

She's looking for someone calm, caring and compassionate, but who is patient and chatty. She needs time to find the words to respond to any questions & is a bit anxious so will need time to build up a relationship with her buddy.

No care experience is needed as this is not care - just kindness, patience, and genuine interest in spending time with someone from a different generation.

Who we’re looking for
✅ Aged 18 – 35 because AIBO focuses on intergenerational connection and the mutual benefits of pairing young people with older adults.
✅ Friendly, reliable, and good with people.
✅ Based locally in or near Partridge or Horsham
✅ Able to commit a few hours each week on a flexible schedule.

Pay & hours

£15 per hour (paid directly via AIBO)
Flexible, ad-hoc hours that fit around your studies or other work
Self-employed/freelance position
