Job purpose
The FM Sector Head – Contract Management marks a step-change from operational contract delivery to strategic, sector-level leadership. The postholder acts as the senior commercial and contractual owner for a portfolio of high-value contracts within defined sectors, providing leadership, direction and governance across the team of Contract Managers.
The role carries increased commitment for a given sectors performance, encompassing commercial outcomes, risk management, service delivery and customer relationships. The Sector Head serves as a senior escalation point for both customers and internal stakeholders, while setting, embedding and continuously improving best practice across all contracts in scope.

Principal duties and responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Team Management

A hybrid role of contract delivery to portfolio with strategic oversight and leadership of Contract Managers and/or Account Managers within given sectors.

Act as a role model for what good looks like in leadership, professionalism, governance and commercial judgement.

Lead, mentor and develop Contract Managers, strengthening capability, resilience and commercial awareness across the team.

Support the Head of FM in delivering functional objectives through mentorship coaching, performance conversations and talent development.

Monitor team capacity and workload, proactively identifying risks and escalating where required. drive consistency, best practice and professional standards across all contracts in scope.
Governance, Compliance & Risk

Hold accountability for customer compliance with legal, regulatory, health & safety and environmental obligations.

Oversee audit readiness across the team, supporting Contract Managers through internal and external audit processes where required.

Ensure audit findings are addressed promptly and embedded through sustainable corrective actions.

Actively contribute to the evolution of contract management frameworks, governance processes and control mechanisms.

Support management on the contractual and commercial risks, escalating to the Head of FM where appropriate.

Ensure H&S procedures and risks are well managed across all contracts and customer sites within the sector.
Commercial & Business Contribution

Provide senior commercial input into re-tenders, extensions and new contract opportunities.

Identify and develop opportunities for service improvement, innovation and added value across the portfolio.

Contribute to senior leadership reporting, translating sector performance into clear commercial insight.

Act as a recognised subject matter expert in contract management across the organisation.

Lead business-critical projects and initiatives as directed by Head of FM.

Work alongside the sales team to support new contract implementations and business development activity within the sectors

Actively work with the Sustainability team to support new developments, commercial opportunities and to embed the existing tools and outputs that already exist within the customer base.

Develop and maintain long-term relationships with key customer stakeholders at all levels, acting as a senior escalation point for service and commercial matters.
Financial & Performance Oversight

Hold responsibility for the overall financial performance of the contracts within allocated portfolio.

Review and challenge contract-level financial performance, supporting Contract Managers to deliver measurable and sustainable improvements.

Challenge operational, supplier and cost assumptions to protect margin and long-term sustainability across the portfolio.

Ensure robust billing accuracy, revenue recovery and financial controls are in place and maintained

Convert financial and operational data into meaningful insight, actions and strategic decisions alongside the Head of FM.

Forecast and track sector account metrics, maintaining oversight of client-level performance and reporting.
Customer & Service Delivery

Undertake regular visits to customer sites to ensure ongoing delivery is efficient, compliant and in line with agreed contractual timescales.

Act as the senior escalation point for any service, compliance or commercial issues within the team.

Oversee the production of customer Management Information, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and commercial relevance.

Champion a culture of continuous improvement and customer-centricity across the contract management team.
