About WISE Mentoring CIC
WISE Mentoring CIC is a community-driven organisation focused on the Wellbeing, Inspiration, Support and Empowerment (WISE) of young people through mentoring and creative educational resources. It’s work centres on helping children from 9-11 year olds build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of identity through positive relationships and accessible learning materials.
Founded in 2023, WISE delivers group and one-to-one mentoring in schools, family activities, and inclusive resources – run by dedicated volunteers and a small part-time team.
Role Overview
We have decided that it’s time to redesign our WISEbooks which are some of the essential resources used during our mentoring sessions. These books use some repeat characters and a range of illustrated situations to teach children about character strengths.
The books will be printed professionally as well as available as downloadable files and we have plans to produce them in several different languages this year to ensure they are as accessible as possible to the diverse communities that we work with.
WISE Mentoring is looking for a passionate individual, with an interest in diversity, accessibility and inclusion, to work with us on these redesigns.
Someone who uses their creativity to plan and problem solve – with a range of languages we will need the new designs to be flexible and adaptable to accommodate different languages and varying volumes of copy.
We expect that the work will be a very collaborative project but with freedom for the successful candidate to apply their artistic perspective to contribute to WISE’s mission.
We are keen to hear from a variety of applicants, even if you do not have formal qualifications, providing you have a portfolio you can show us.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a range of illustrations suitable for our target audience of 9-11 year olds.
- Redesign two WISEbooks (approx.120 pages in total)
- Edit and adapt designs to accommodate translated text while maintaining your original design
- Setting schedules for the projects and providing regular updates
- Taking ownership of the creative direction and illustration style
Essential Criteria
- Able to work from home independently, using your own equipment.
- Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign
- Experience in graphic design (formal or informal)
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality, accessible outputs
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently
- Interest in accessibility, education, or community-focused work
Desirable Criteria
- Experience of designing for print and delivering print-ready files
- A keen interest in diversity and inclusion in illustration
- Experience of design to WCAG accessibility standards or willingness to learn
- Experience of working within brand guidelines
Reporting Line
You will report directly to the Senior Business Development Lead.
