About the role

As an Occupational Health Screening Nurse, you will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing expert health advice and delivering a proactive, comprehensive occupational health service to Wiltshire Police. Your work will directly contribute to the promotion and maintenance of physical and mental health across the Force, ensuring employees can perform their roles safely and effectively. This is a full-time permanent role, Monday to Friday (8.30 – 16:30 or 9:00 – 17:00).
What you will be doing
Under the guidance of the Occupational Health Nurse and wider OHU department, provide Occupational Health services to the Force, according to current policy and practice.
To hold responsibility for own case load and work with and without direct supervision.
To manage and perform initial assessment of service users following a work-related accident/incident, ill health or sickness absence using evidence based and client centred approach to practice.
Review and assess management referrals to identify the nature of concerns and determine appropriate pathways for action.
Prioritise cases based on urgency, complexity and potential workplace impact. Triage health questionnaires resulting in a fitness to work decision.
To undertake relevant aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
To assess high risk groups assessing physical and psychological wellbeing and advising on fit for purpose.
Offer individual’s personal and medical advice on physical and mental health matters, according to evidence based practice.
Provide appropriate intervention following assessment if necessary.
About you and your experience
Registered General Nurse with post qualified experience.
Occupational Health or GP practice experience would be desirable.
Experience of performing health screening/assessment.
Experience of managing workplace incidents/accidents.
Ability to assess the severity and urgency of health concerns and prioritise cases effectively such as the role of triage.
Experience in working independently as well as within a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of occupational health.
Experience of delivering health promotion initiatives including training and other activities.
