Immigration Enforcement is responsible for enforcing the governments immigration laws, tackling illegal migration, removing foreign national offenders and immigration offenders from the UK. We are seeking an Administrative Officer (AO) to provide critical admin and co-ordination support across the end-to-end process. The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring and maintaining the teams shared mailbox, acting as a central point of contact for external licensing partners, including local police forces and local authorities, and representing the Home Office in communications. They will be responsible for maintaining accurate systems, and ensuring review packs are prepared, dispatched and tracked efficiently to support timely licensing enforcement.

The post holder will provide a vital liaison function between the Licensing Team and local authorities, particularly in relation to premises licence requests.

Job description

Interventions, Sanctions and Compliance (ISC) sits within Immigration Enforcement and is responsible for implementing, overseeing, and operating measures designed to ensure only those eligible to access work, benefits and services can do so. Its aim is to encourage compliance with the immigration rules, a critical component of the overall enforcement effort to tackle illegal migration.

The Licensing Compliance Team (LCT) leads IEs response to handling cases where licensees are suspected and/or found to be in breach of licensing conditions, particularly by employing individuals without the right to work in the UK. This is a key element of the Home Office Illegal Working strategy.

Many businesses, and business owners, hold a licence to sell alcohol and/or late-night refreshments. This is issued by a local authority and certain conditions must be met, such as compliance with immigration legislation. If conditions are not met, a licence can be suspended or revoked.

Built on a framework of compliance and deterrence, this ensures; Those without eligibility are less likely to be able to live and work in the UK. Third-party providers, such as employers and landlords, meet their legal obligations and understand their responsibilities. Public funds are protected.

You may be required to undertake the same or a similar role within a different team or teams (where possible, at your base location or within reasonable travel distance), depending on business priorities. With appropriate training and support, this will provide opportunities to broaden both your experience and skill set.

Key responsibilities

As this is a newly established role, responsibilities will evolve over time. However, the primary duties are expected to include (but are not limited to):

Managing the team mailbox, responding to enquiries, and liaising with relevant Home Office teams and stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate responses.
Submitting requests for premises licences to local authorities.
Redacting review packs following completion by caseworkers, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant guidance.
Coordinating the dispatch of review packs and monitoring delivery to ensure successful receipt.
Updating PRONTO and other tracking systems, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.

Working pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 30 hours per week due to business requirements.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of concentration and attention to detail.
Confidence in representing Home Office interests and communicating professionally with a range of stakeholders.

Ability to work at pace, adapting to changing demands and priorities while maintaining accuracy.

Desirable Criteria:

Knowledge of the immigration system and enforcement powers/processes.

Selection process details

Online Test by 12th August 2026

If you successfully pass the Civil Service Verbal tests, you will be invited to complete the full application form. If you fail to complete the online tests or full application before the deadline, your application will be withdrawn.

You will be directed to the Talogy - True Talent Scheduled Maintenance Window Webpage for online tests during an outage.

Our online test supplier will be performing scheduled maintenance between 3 p.m. and Midnight on 4th August 2026. You will be unable to access tests during this period.

If you are in the middle of a test when the maintenance begins, your progress will be paused. You will be able to resume your test from where you left off via your application centre once the downtime has ended. Please note that you will not be able to launch any new tests while the system is offline.

Following successful completion of your test/s, you will then be asked to complete the full application form.
