Job Description:
As a Powder Coating Labourer you will play a key role in our new in-house powder coating department, focused primarily on the preparation and cleaning of metal components ready for coating. Proper surface preparation is the foundation of a quality finish, and this role is essential to ensuring every part meets our high standards before it reaches the spray booth. As a metal fabrication company bringing powder coating in house, this is a great opportunity to join a growing department from the ground up. For the right candidate, there is real potential to be trained on the coating process and develop your skills further. All new state-of-the-art equipment will be provided, including a Gema spray gun, water wash spray booth and an 8 x 3.5 x 3m gas fired oven.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent Monday to Friday Days
7.00am – 4.00pm Mon–Thurs, 7.00am – 1.00pm Fri, overtime and weekends available as and when required
Pay: £14.00 – £16.00 per hour Depending on Experience
Key Responsibilities
Surface Preparation: Clean, degrease, and prepare metal surfaces ready for powder coating, ensuring optimal adhesion and finish quality.
Cleaning & Masking: Carry out thorough cleaning of components and mask off areas as required prior to coating.
Material Handling: Move, hang, and position metal components safely onto jigs and lines ready for processing.
Equipment Operation: Assist with the operation and upkeep of preparation equipment and the wash booth.
Quality Control: Inspect prepared surfaces for contamination or defects, ensuring parts are ready to meet quality standards.
Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure a safe and efficient workspace.
Health and Safety: Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of chemicals.
Record Keeping: Maintain ERP system to ensure job movements are recorded.
Skills and Qualifications
Experience: Previous experience in a fabrication, surface preparation, or general workshop environment is beneficial but not essential — full training given.
Reliability: A strong work ethic and willingness to learn, with good timekeeping and attendance.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to ensure surfaces are properly prepared and free of defects.
Team Player: Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
Forklift Licence: A valid forklift licence would be beneficial but is not necessary.
Health and Safety Awareness: Knowledge of COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) regulations and safe working practices is an advantage.
Progression: For the right candidate showing the right attitude and aptitude, there is genuine potential to be trained on powder coating application and grow within the department.
