This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative Band 4 Assistant Psychologist to join our well established and vibrant multi-disciplinary Community Team for People with Learning Disabilities. You will be an integral member of a staff team who are passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities, and are continually developing different approaches to meet peoples’ needs.

We are looking for an Assistant Psychologist who ideally has experience of working with people with learning disabilities and people with dementia.

The post-holder‘s work will focus on our post-diagnostic pathway for people with a learning disability who also have a diagnosis of dementia.

This varied and exciting post covers a wide geographical area across West Surrey and North-East Hampshire, and flexible working across our three bases in Chertsey, Aldershot and Guildford is encouraged. The successful applicant’s preferences will be taken into account when choosing which base, they will be predominantly working from.

This role is focussed on our post-diagnostic pathway for people with a learning disability who have an additional diagnosis of dementia. Under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist, the post-holder will provide information and resources to the direct caregivers of people with dementia. This will include family members and care staff. The successful candidate will deliver interventions including consultation, psychoeducation and training to direct caregivers. Through managing a small caseload, they will draw on neuropsychological knowledge, as well as Systemic and Positive Support approaches, to help carers navigate periods of complexity and proactively meet the needs of the person to ensure improved quality of life.

The post-holder will likely undertake dementia assessments, for people who are showing changes in their functioning. They will assist in clinically related administration, conduct of audits, collection of outcome statistics, and/or other project work as appropriate under the supervision of a qualified clinical psychologist working within the service.

We also provide social care services for people with a learning disability in Croydon and ASD and ADHD assessment services in Hampshire.
