Runnymede Borough Council is looking for a Revenues Inspector to join our Revenues Team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring that Council Tax and Business Rates records are accurate, helping to maximise income that supports essential local services for our residents and businesses.
As a Revenues Inspector, you will undertake inspections across the borough to identify changes affecting Council Tax and Business Rates liability. You will gather and assess information, investigate complex cases, work closely with internal departments and external organisations, and support the maintenance of accurate property and taxation records.
The role involves both office-based and on-site work, providing a varied workload and the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the council's finances and service delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting inspections of domestic and commercial properties.
- Identifying new, altered, occupied or unoccupied properties liable for Council Tax or Business Rates.
- Gathering and recording detailed information to support accurate taxation records.
- Preparing completion notices for newly built or altered properties.
- Liaising with the Valuation Office Agency, businesses, residents and professional rating agents.
- Supporting the maximisation of the Council's tax base and New Homes Bonus income.
- Representing the Council at Valuation Tribunals or Magistrates' Court where required.
- Working collaboratively with Planning, Building Control, Housing, Customer Services and Recovery teams.

Essential
- Five GCSEs (Grades A-C / 4-9), including English and Maths.
- Ability to manage workloads effectively and meet deadlines.
- Experience using IT systems to input, retrieve and manage information.

- Experience in a visiting or inspection role.
- Experience working with commercial and domestic customers.
- Understanding of data protection principles.
- Knowledge of the Runnymede area.
