About the Role
- Lead, motivate, and manage the branch team, including funeral directors, arrangers, and operatives - covering rotas, on-call schedules, performance, and development
- Oversee all funeral arrangements and operations, ensuring every funeral is delivered to the highest standard from first call to aftercare
- Act as senior point of contact for families, handling complex arrangements, escalations, and complaints with sensitivity and professionalism
- Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, cremation and burial regulations, health & safety, and industry codes of practice (NAFD/SAIF)
- Manage branch commercial performance (control against budget)
- Maintain the presentation and upkeep of premises, vehicles, mortuary facilities, and equipment to the highest standard
- Conduct funerals as required, leading services and supporting the team on the day
- Drive community engagement, building relationships with local clergy, celebrants, care homes, hospices, and community groups to grow the branch's reputation
- Oversee accurate record-keeping, documentation, and funeral accounts, ensuring pricing transparency in line with CMA requirements
- Recruit, induct, and train new team members, embedding company values and service standards
- Participate in the management on-call rota and support neighbouring branches where needed
What We Need From You
- Proven experience in the funeral profession, ideally with arranging and conducting experience
- Previous people management or supervisory experience, with the ability to lead and develop a team
- Strong commercial awareness, including budgets.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills - empathetic with families, decisive with operational issues
- Sound knowledge of funeral service regulations, documentation, and compliance requirements
- Highly organised, calm under pressure, and able to prioritise across multiple funerals and sites
- Immaculate personal presentation and professional conduct
- Full UK driving licence and flexibility for on-call working
- Dip FD or equivalent qualification desirable
