HSE Manager

About the Role
G3 Systems Ltd is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead and develop our health, safety and environmental function across our engineering, manufacturing, warehouse, office and project environments.
Based at our Osprey Quay facility in Portland, Dorset, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving our Integrated Management System (IMS), ensuring compliance with UK legislation, ISO standards and industry best practice.
This is an opportunity for an experienced HSE professional to make a direct impact by driving a proactive safety culture, supporting operational excellence and providing trusted advice across the business, including UK and overseas project operations.
Key Responsibilities
Health, Safety & Environmental Management
- Lead, maintain and continuously improve HSE systems across office, production, warehouse and construction project environments.
- Ensure compliance with relevant UK legislation including:
- Health & Safety at Work Act (HSWA)
- Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR)
- Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM)
- COSHH
- PUWER
- LOLER
- Maintain and develop ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 aligned management systems.
- Provide competent HSE advice and guidance to managers, supervisors and employees.
Risk Management & Safe Systems of Work
- Lead and support risk assessments across operational areas and project activities.
- Develop and review Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work.
- Support project teams managing HSE risks, including overseas working environments.
- Manage contractor HSE compliance and assurance activities.
Incident Management & Reporting
- Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure appropriate reporting, including RIDDOR compliance.
- Complete root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Monitor trends and provide proactive recommendations to reduce risk.
Auditing & Compliance Assurance
- Develop and deliver the annual HSE audit programme.
- Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with legislation, ISO standards and G3 processes.
- Support external audits and certification activities.
- Monitor effectiveness of safety controls and improvement actions.
Non-Conformance Management
- Maintain the HSE Non-Conformance Register.
- Monitor corrective actions and drive timely closure of identified issues.
Training & Competence
- Deliver HSE inductions and awareness training.
- Manage HSE training records and competency requirements.
- Identify training needs and support development of employees.
- Deliver IOSH training (where suitably qualified).
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and maintain emergency response arrangements including:
- Fire
- Medical emergencies
- Evacuation procedures
- Ensure suitable numbers of trained first aiders and fire wardens are maintained.
- Coordinate emergency drills and exercises.
- Maintain inspection and readiness of emergency equipment.
- Support emergency planning for overseas project operations when required.
Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Maintain and update HSE-related IMS documentation.
- Manage legislative update registers covering:
- Compliance obligations
- Environmental aspects and impacts
- Risks and opportunities
- Support ongoing IMS improvement activities.
Reporting & Meetings
- Produce regular HSE performance reports for management and project teams.
- Chair HSE and safety meetings.
- Provide monthly and weekly HSE updates as required.
Qualifications & Experience Required
Essential:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Lead Auditor / Internal Auditor qualification or experience covering ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing, construction or similar technical environment.
- Strong understanding of HSE legislation and compliance requirements.
- Experience developing and implementing risk assessments and safe systems of work.
- Strong auditing experience.
- Excellent record keeping, reporting and database management skills.
- Competent user of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Desirable:
- HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical experience.
- NEBOSH Fire Certificate.
- NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate.
- Experience implementing and maintaining ISO management systems.
- Experience within component manufacturing, assembly or final product inspection environments.
