Seasonal Positions Available
Whitby Mobility Hire provides mobility scooters, wheelchairs and rollators to visitors and local residents across the Whitby area.
Whitby Mobility Hire is operated by local registered charity Whitby, Scarborough and Ryedale Disability Action Group, which works to improve independence, accessibility and quality of life for disabled and older people across the region.
We are looking to recruit three seasonal Mobility Hire Assistants to join our team during our busy visitor season.
These positions are seasonal and are expected to run from approximately April to October each year, with hours varying according to customer demand and holiday periods.
The role involves meeting customers, demonstrating equipment, completing hire paperwork, preparing equipment for hire and ensuring returned equipment is cleaned, checked and ready for their next customer.
Available Positions
- 1 x 16-hour per week seasonal position
- 2 x 8-hour per week seasonal positions
Working patterns will include weekends and bank holidays during our busiest periods. Additional hours may be available during peak holiday seasons.
Main Duties
- Welcoming customers and completing hire paperwork.
- Demonstrating the safe use of mobility scooters, wheelchairs and rollators.
- Carrying out equipment handovers and returns.
- Cleaning and preparing equipment between hires.
- Charging mobility scooters.
- Performing basic visual safety checks.
- Reporting faults, damage or maintenance issues.
- Maintaining a clean and organised work area.
- Providing excellent customer service at all times.
- Assisting with basic administrative tasks and booking enquiries when required.
- Performing occasional local equipment deliveries and collections.
About You
You will be:
- Friendly and approachable.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Comfortable working independently.
- Confident speaking with customers of all ages.
- Able to follow procedures and complete paperwork accurately.
- Physically capable of moving mobility equipment when required.
- Committed to providing excellent customer service.
Previous customer service experience would be an advantage, although full training will be provided.
Desirable Qualities
While not essential, preference may be given to applicants who:
- Can offer some flexibility to provide additional hours when required.
- Are willing to assist with sickness and holiday cover for colleagues.
- Have previous experience in customer service, retail, tourism, hospitality or care-related roles.
- Possess good computer skills and are comfortable using email, online booking systems and basic office software.
- Have a friendly, confident and professional manner when dealing with members of the public.

- As this is a seasonal role, there is no guarantee that work will be available outside the operating season. However, we are keen to retain good staff and suitable applicants may be considered for future seasons and for other suitable opportunities that become available within the organisation.
