John Tanous Ltd is a small, family-run bespoke furniture manufacturer based in Sayers Common. We design and manufacture high-end furniture for private residential clients and commercial projects across London, Surrey and Sussex. Every piece is handcrafted in our own workshop to the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship.
We are seeking a highly skilled, experienced and reliable Furniture Maker to join our busy and friendly team.
This hands-on role involves the manufacture and assembly of high-quality bespoke furniture from start to finish. The successful candidate will have extensive experience working with a variety of timbers and wood veneers, interpreting detailed design drawings, and using a wide range of woodworking machinery, hand tools, jigs and templates. Experience incorporating materials such as glass, metal and stone into furniture projects would be advantageous.
You must be capable of working independently, take pride in your craftsmanship, and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage work effectively to ensure projects are completed within agreed timeframes.
- Select appropriate materials, fittings and tools for each project.
- Manufacture and assemble bespoke furniture from detailed design drawings and specifications.
- Operate woodworking machinery, hand tools and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Install hardware and fittings to a high standard.
- Maintain excellent quality control throughout the manufacturing process.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures and workshop protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a skilled furniture maker or cabinet maker.
- High level of competence in the safe use of woodworking machinery, hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to read and accurately interpret CAD and technical drawings.
- Strong knowledge of timber species, veneers and their characteristics.
- Excellent attention to detail, precision and craftsmanship.
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot and resolve technical manufacturing issues.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Physical fitness and the ability to lift and move furniture components and materials.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to work.
Desirable Skills and Experience
- In-depth knowledge of furniture and cabinet-making techniques, materials and finishes.
- Experience integrating metalwork, glass and stone into bespoke furniture.
- Proficiency in furniture assembly and installation of fittings and hardware.
- Strong cabinetry skills, including measuring, cutting, shaping and finishing timber.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and the development of best working practices.
- Excellent communication, flexibility and reliability.
Hours of Work
40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 7:00am to 5:30pm.
Additional hours, including Friday and occasional Saturday working, may be required to meet project deadlines.
