Who are the department and what is the role?
This is a vacancy for a Trainee Accounts Assistant who will work as part of the Pensions Administration Department, Accounting team, providing accounting services to clients and other teams within the firm. The successful candidate will be based in Winchester but may, from to time to time, be required to work in our London office.
What will you be doing?
The main tasks that the person will be involved with are as follows:
Preparing Pension Scheme Report & Accounts for Schemes within timescales for a portfolio of clients involving
- Reconciliation of investments and AVC accounts, preparation of statutory pension scheme Trustee Report and Accounts with supporting working papers, including preparation of the Trustee’s Report and any other accompanying information
- Managing auditors through the audit process, ensuring that the provision of information and resolution of queries are completed to enable the accounts to be completed within the legally prescribed timescales and client requirements
- Attendance at client and auditor meetings as required Assisting in other aspects of the team’s work including:
- Operation of client bank accounts
- Bank reconciliations on a daily / weekly / monthly basis
- Monthly / quarterly income and expenditure reports
- Supporting/owning ad-hoc project work
What skills, qualities and experience do you need for this role?
- Educated to 'A' level, degree level or equivalents
- Previous office experience would be useful but pensions experience is not essential
- Strong numeracy skills with a high level of accuracy
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills
- The ability to work under your own steam but also to be a strong team player, capable of multi-tasking and fluctuating workloads. The ability to organise and manage your workloads is vital!
- A high standard of professionalism is required at all times as is a flexibility of hours worked and work undertaken
- An inquisitive mind and keenness to learn
