We are Dickens Eye Clinic, a luxury eyewear boutique and opticians based in Dickens Heath, just a few miles from Solihull. We’re looking for an experienced Dispensing Optician to join our small but fast-paced team on a full time basis (Tuesday – Saturday).

The practice was established 20 years ago and has remained a family run business, offering optical services, high end eyewear and styling/customisation to our community and beyond. Our store brings in customers from around the UK, and online we work with clients all over the world. Our ethos is simple: quality, not quantity. We pride ourselves on matching clients to their perfect frame, ensuring precision fitting and comfort, combining style and substance.
The brands we work with are the elite within the industry; from the engineering perfection of Lindberg, to the fiercely collectable world of Jacques Marie Mage, we work with only the highest quality. Chrome Hearts, Cartier, Akoni, Sato, Chanel, Ahlem, Max Pittion are some of our others, just to name a few.
The role
We're looking for an experienced Qualified Dispensing Optician, with the technical skills and knowledge to take complete ownership of the dispensing process, from clinical handover through to final fit on collection. You'll guide every client with genuine expertise; understanding how a frame works with their prescription, their facial structure, their measurements and their life.
You'll know how to mark up accurately, how to ask the right questions and translate into eyewear that fits and performs with precision. Knowledge of luxury frame materials and construction is a bonus, though we'll share everything we know; what can't be taught is the instinct, the curiosity and the care that makes the difference between just any pair of glasses, and the right pair of glasses.
We are a small team that achieves a lot; we need you for your technical skills, knowledge and delivery, but we also need someone who thrives when they can see the direct result of their effort. In a small practice, your contribution is never invisible - it's felt immediately, by the team and by the clients you serve. That means everyone rolls up their sleeves; phones get answered, the practice gets looked after, stock gets counted, and nobody is too important for any of it. We work hard and take pride in everything we do, no matter how small the task.
Must haves:
- Qualified Dispensing Optician with 2+ years experience, or the equivalent skill and knowledge through experience
- Full time availability Tuesday to Saturday
- An inclusive approach to client care, with a consistent respect for every person who walks through our door
- Good communication, building positive working relationships with the team, clients and our suppliers
- Attention to detail (everyone says it, but it is essential in a small independent like ours)
- A starter/finisher – someone who can see a task through to the end, keeping things organised along the way
- Computer literate – you don’t need to be Bill Gates, but we use Microsoft 365, the Google Suite and other online platforms. As we’re a small and busy team, you’ll need to be able to use them confidently without oversight
Bonus, but not essential
- Knowledge of luxury eyewear
- Familiarity with our brands, materials and their offerings
- Understanding of fashion trends, styles and different lifestyles
- Social media understanding, light support with our social channels, photos and videos on occasion
