Like most of our colleagues, you’ve probably never even considered the idea of being a fundraiser for a fantastic local charity like The Kirkwood Hospice, you might even think it’s a job you could never do.
But the truth is that all of us have discovered an amazing career that is incredibly rewarding, extremely flexible, and gives you a genuine work-life balance.
The best news is that it is ideally suited to older people (mid-40’s and older), and you do not need to have prior experience – in fact we prefer it if you haven’t!
There is no mould you need to fit into, no experience that is essential.
We’ll teach you everything you need to be successful.
We’re more interested in what you as a person offer, rather than in qualifications, previous experience, or your age.
The best fundraisers have 3 common traits:
1) They are friendly, happy people;
2) They like chatting with people;
3) They don’t mind putting in some work.
If you possess those 3 attributes, then we can teach you the rest, and you can earn really good money working whatever hours you like (see below).
The only 4 requirements that you must have are:
1) You speak fluent English;
2) You are physically fit enough to walk a mile or two each day;
3) You have transport, or can get to the (local) area you’re working in;
4) You will pass a DBS check (we will pay for it).
About The Job
As a fundraiser for The Kirkwood you’ll be asking people face-to-face to support this amazing local hospice, by joining their lottery or regular giving campaigns.
I know it probably seems daunting to imagine yourself doing that – we all felt the same way too – but the reality of doingthe job is nothing like you imagine it’s going to be – it’s actually a really fun, enjoyable, and rewarding career.
You’ll be amazed how much easier it is, because people genuinely care about local causes, and they are very receptive to the idea of supporting them.
Many of the people you talk to will have had personal experience of the work the charity or hospice do, so they genuinely care about it.
These are the kinds of people that we want you to encourage to become supporters.
You earn a commission for each supporter you recruit.
How Much Can I Earn?
There is no limit on how much you can earn.
Typical earnings for a typical fundraiser will be c.£30K-£40K per year.
But you can earn more.
You earn a commission for every supporter you recruit, there is no cap on your earnings.
If you recruit 20 supporters, you get paid for 20 supporters;
If you recruit 40 supporters, you get paid for 40 supporters;
If you recruit 100 supporters, you get paid for 100 supporters.
How much you want to earn is completely in your own hands.
You can work as many or as few hours as you like, to earn the level of income that you want or need.
We pay you weekly, first thing every Friday morning, so you have a regular, reliable income.
How Many Hours Do I Need To Work?
There are no set hours, you can put in whatever hours fit your life the best.
The main working days are Monday to Friday, but you don’t have to work every day.
If you need, for example, every Monday and Friday off, then that’s fine.
If you’d prefer to work Monday through Friday, and you can earn what you need in, say, 3 hours per day, then that’s fine too.
The job is completely flexible around you and your needs.
You can also work on Saturdays if you really want to (it can be a good day to work, since more people are at home), but you don’t have to, it’s up to you.
The bottom line is that you decide which days and hours you’re going to work, and that is determined by how much you want to earn.
Our Philosophy at Dedicated Fundraising:
We believe in looking after our charities and fundraisers by operating in an ethical and transparent way, so that everyone benefits.
There are 3 main elements to how we operate:
1) We focus on supporting and encouraging our fundraisers.
By paying you leading industry rates and allowing you true flexibility in working hours and your work-life balance, we have created a low-pressure environment where you can flourish at your own pace.
This allows you earn a very good living, while concentrating on only recruiting long-term supporters who actually care about the charity you represent.
2) The long-term supporters you recruit are exactly what local charities, like hospices need.
Your supporters provide a crucial lifeline and the invaluable funds these charities need to survive, so they can provide crucial care to people within your community.
By ensuring that you are able to recruit the right kind of people, we ensure that our charity partners receive the right kind of supporters and the long-term revenue that they need.
3) For us as a company – if we focus on making sure that you succeed, and our charities succeed, then we succeed as a company.
It is a truly symbiotic relationship, where everyone needs to be successful for anyone to be successful.
This is why we look after you, pay you the best rates in the industry, and work with you to help you be the best fundraiser you can be, so you earn the maximum money possible.
A Fundraising Company Run By Fundraisers
One final thing to add is that Dedicated Fundraising is run by people who are doing the same job that you will be doing.
This is not a company run by managers, or executives, or committees, who are sat in an office barking out orders with no idea of the realities of the job.
We are out there, 5 days per week doing the exact same job that you’re going to be doing, in the same weather, with the same trials and tribulations that you find in any job, we’re no different to you.
So, you can be absolutely sure that whatever you’re experiencing, whatever highs or lows you might be going through – we get it, we understand, and we’ll help you through them.
This is one of the unique differences that we have – we are walking the walk with you, not just talking the talk to you.
We want you to succeed as a fundraiser, and we’ll help you to earn as much as you possibly can.
Sounds More Interesting Than You Thought?
Look, we aren’t “high-pressure” salesmen (in fact exactly the opposite), and those are not the kinds of people we want working with us.
We aren’t here to cajole or twist anyone’s arm into doing something they don’t want to.
But if you think you could fit the role of a fundraiser that we’ve outlined above, then there’s no harm in at least having a chat with us, even if you’re not sure.
We promise you, it’s a job like no other, and whatever you’re unsure about, or worries you might have, we’ll happily answer all of your questions until you’re satisfied if this is for you or not.
If you decide it’s not for you, then that’s fine.
If you decide you’d like to give it a go, then we’ll be with you every step of the way to help you succeed.
Please feel absolutely free to contact us, and we’ll be delighted to chat with you about anything you want to know.
Also remember that we really encourage older people to apply. The life experience and work experience you have is extremely valuable and fits perfectly into this kind of role.
We look forward to speaking with you!
