Full job description

At Maggs Day Centre, we support people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping and multiple disadvantage across Worcestershire. We provide compassionate, person-centred services that promote dignity, safety, independence and long-term change.

We are looking for an experienced and proactive individual to help coordinate the day-to-day delivery of our Worcester Day Centre.

This is a varied role combining day centre coordination, staff support and direct work with people experiencing homelessness and multiple disadvantage. You will help ensure the service runs effectively each day, that staff and volunteers are supported and that people accessing the Day Centre receive high-quality, coordinated support.

Alongside helping to lead the day-to-day service, you will continue to work directly with people accessing Maggs, supporting them to improve their wellbeing, develop accommodation pathways, build independence and work towards their individual goals.

About the Role

As part of the Worcester team, you will:

Coordinate the effective day-to-day running of Worcester Day Centre, ensuring staffing, resources and support are in place to meet the needs of people using the service
Lead shifts, daily briefings and handovers and provide day-to-day guidance to Homeless Support Workers
Provide regular supervision to designated Homeless Support Workers
Work closely with the Service Lead – Worcester and South Worcestershire to support safe and effective service delivery
Work alongside the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure volunteers are appropriately supported and involved in the service
Support the induction, training, coaching and development of staff
Provide compassionate, person-centred support to people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping or insecure housing
Hold an appropriate caseload and work with individuals to develop support plans, identify goals and work towards greater independence
Ensure support plans and risk assessments are accurate and up to date
Support people to access appropriate accommodation, benefits, healthcare, mental health and substance use services and other specialist support
Provide advice, advocacy and practical support around accommodation and independent living
Help people develop skills and confidence around areas such as budgeting, cooking, cleaning, training and employment
Encourage involvement in social, learning, volunteering and peer-support opportunities
Support and coordinate small group activities, including recreational, learning and peer-led sessions
Work collaboratively with councils, housing providers, health services and voluntary and statutory partners
Represent Maggs at multi-agency meetings where required
Contribute to outreach activity, including occasional street counts, audits and engagement with people who are not currently accessing services
Identify and appropriately escalate safeguarding concerns
Contribute to data collection, KPIs, impact reporting and continuous service improvement
Help ensure essential Day Centre resources and consumables are appropriately stocked

We're Looking For Someone Who:

Has experience of supporting people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, multiple disadvantage or other complex needs
Has experience of supporting, supervising or providing guidance to colleagues
Can confidently coordinate day-to-day activity within a busy frontline service
Can build positive and trusting relationships with people who may be experiencing significant challenges
Is confident providing person-centred support and managing an appropriate caseload
Understands safeguarding, risk management, professional boundaries and confidentiality
Has strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills
Can provide constructive guidance, coaching and support to colleagues
Is comfortable working collaboratively with statutory, voluntary and community partners
Can remain calm, organised and responsive within a busy and sometimes challenging environment
Is compassionate, resilient and non-judgemental
Is committed to promoting dignity, independence, equality and inclusion

Experience of homelessness services, housing support, outreach, day centre provision or another frontline support environment would be particularly valuable.

Working With People

At the heart of this role is building relationships.

You will work alongside individuals to understand what matters to them and provide support tailored to their circumstances. This might include accessing accommodation or healthcare, addressing financial difficulties, engaging with mental health or substance use services, developing independent living skills or simply having consistent support from someone they trust.

You will also work closely with colleagues and partner organisations to ensure people receive coordinated support rather than having to navigate services alone.

Supporting the Team

This role has an important day-to-day leadership element.

You will provide guidance and support to Homeless Support Workers, including regular supervision, and help coordinate the Day Centre through shift leadership, briefings and handovers.

You will work closely with the Service Lead – Worcester and South Worcestershire and help ensure Maggs' values and standards are reflected consistently across the service.
