About the Role

37 hours per week
The Assessment and Intervention Team is seeking to appoint an Assistant Team Manager to join our management team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of Wrexham’s ongoing improvement journey.

Our team primarily undertakes referrals from SPOA where a comprehensive assessment is required. This is a fast-paced environment that demands strong decision-making skills.
As Assistant Team Manager, you will supervise and support staff, ensuring safeguarding procedures are followed and that performance and practice meet high standards within statutory timescales.
Wrexham Local Authority has recently undergone significant change. Applicants should be able to respond effectively to constant change, conflicting deadlines, and shifting priorities. You will need the skills to assist in safeguarding children, lead investigations, and ensure compliance with the All Wales Child Protection Procedures to protect children from harm.
You will be responsible for supervising and mentoring up to six social workers (both newly qualified and experienced), as well as providing support and guidance to students on placement. The role also involves supporting the manager with staff recruitment and selection, organising and chairing team meetings, conducting staff appraisals, and monitoring performance in line with the council’s capability, grievance, and disciplinary procedures.

Strong planning, allocation, and evaluation skills are essential to ensure the team operates efficiently.

This post in the Assessment intervention team attracts a recruitment incentive payment of £3,300 as a welcome to the Council.

In certain conditions an additional retention incentive payment of £3,300 may also applicable on the anniversary of your appointment if you remain in service in an eligible role/ team.
This payment will be pro rata for part time employees and is subject to normal employee deductions e.g. pension, NI and Tax and other terms and conditions apply. Please see the Recruitment & Retention Payment Guidance note for more details
