Laboratory Technician
Laboratory Technician: Keep World-Class Analysis Moving
Purpose and Scope of the Role
Join Tetra Tech’s respected Laboratory team in Bedford as a Laboratory Technician, supporting the smooth running of purpose-built analytical facilities with an international reputation in food, feed, forage, environmental and agrochemical testing.
This full time, permanent role focuses on the essential daily operations that enable technical teams to deliver reliable analytical solutions for clients working to quality standards, maximum residue limits, environmental regulations and complex monitoring requirements. You will manage deliveries, consumables, chemical stocks, sampling kits, waste and safe disposal processes, while maintaining accurate records and a clean, well-organised working environment.
Your Impact in this Position
From day one, you will help keep laboratory workflows efficient, safe and compliant. In the medium term, you will build strong practical knowledge of laboratory operations, stock control, sampling preparation and safety procedures. Longer term, this role offers a strong foundation for developing within a specialist laboratory environment, with exposure to significant analytical programmes and experienced technical colleagues.
Core Capabilities
Operational Laboratory Support
- Receive and unpack deliveries, maintain consumables, reagents and chemicals, and ensure stocks are logged, ordered and available when needed.
Accuracy and Record Keeping
- Keep chemical inventories, stock records and laboratory documentation up to date, with strong attention to detail and consistency.
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Follow laboratory procedures for safe handling, disposal and housekeeping, including manual handling, working in cold environments, noise exposure, machinery use and handling foods including nuts.
Organisation and Prioritisation
- Manage routine tasks in a busy environment, respond to changing priorities and support the wider team with reliable day-to-day laboratory checks.
Communication and Teamwork
- Follow written and verbal instructions, seek guidance when needed, and work effectively both independently and as part of a technical team.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience
You will have an interest in science, ideally supported by relevant science qualifications, alongside good organisational skills, time management and attention to detail. Experience in a fast-paced setting is desirable, and previous laboratory experience would be advantageous.
Desirable additional experience includes supporting a small team or support desk, prioritising workloads, basic project management, commercial awareness, identifying chargeable activity or supporting prospective clients.
Work Pattern and Location
This role is based at our Bedford laboratory, working 2pm to 10pm, Monday to Friday. It is a site-based position due to the practical laboratory support required. To recognise the commitment to later hours, we are offering a £1,000 bonus as a thank you for your dedication and contribution.
