Community Advice and Support Worker (part-time, 13 hours per week)

Pay dependent on experience, starting at £14 per hour.

Based in Ross-on-Wye.

@The Hub Ross-on-Wye is a small charity working alongside people facing challenges including poverty, homelessness and social isolation, helping to build connection, confidence and give practical support. We are seeking a part-time Community Advice and Support Worker within our community drop-in and advice service.

Key responsibilities:

Provide person-centred support tailored to individual needs.
Support individuals to access community activities, appointments and social opportunities.
Promote independence, dignity, choice, health and wellbeing.
Build positive, trusting relationships with the people you support.
Maintain accurate records and report any concerns appropriately.
Work as part of a supportive team while also being confident working independently.

Part-time: 13 hours per week (possibly increasing in future, subject to funding).

Community-based role in Ross-on-Wye.

The post is subject to a 2 month probation period.

Job Description:

Job Title: Community Advice and Support Worker

Organisation: @The Hub Ross-on-Wye

Location: based @The Hub, Corpus Christi Lane, Ross-on-Wye HR9 7AE

Hours: Part-time, 13 hours per week.

Contract: Subject to a 2 month probationary period. Fixed term till May 2029 (Lottery funded). More hours/longer term subject to future funding.

Pay: Dependent on experience,

Reporting to: Lead Support Worker.

Job Purpose

The Community Support Worker will work as part of our team @The Hub to support individuals and families with a wide variety of needs. The role focuses on outreach, early intervention and building trusted relationships to help people access benefits, safe housing, to strengthen their independence and connect with local support networks.

Key Responsibilities

Build trusting, strengths-based relationships with individuals in our venue @The Hub and community settings such as local drop-ins and outreach locations.
Identify early signs of risk and provide preventative support.
Assist with benefit claims, housing applications, budgeting and practical tenancy-related tasks.
Work with Hub colleagues to create coordinated support pathways with local community organisations, faith groups, health services and housing providers.
Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords, local authorities and statutory services.
Encourage community integration and reduce social isolation by linking people into local activities and resources.
Carry out risk assessments and follow safeguarding and lone-working procedures.
Maintain accurate case notes and monitoring information on our database.
Operate as part of our small and close-knit team, sharing information and ideas, supporting each other.

Person Specification

Essential:

a) Experience of community-based support, outreach work or working with people facing poverty, homelessness or housing insecurity.

b) Ability to engage people who may be hard to reach or distrustful of services.

c) A genuine interest in helping vulnerable people to make positive changes in their lives, and the willingness to develop these valuable skills.

d) Ability to understand the stresses encountered by people with multiple and complex needs and to not get overwhelmed by them.

e) Strong communication, listening and relationship-building skills to use with a wide range of people including our clients, colleagues and professionals.

f) Proven ability to adhere to strict confidentiality at all times.

g) Ability to work flexibly across different community settings and as part of a team.

h) A compassionate, non-judgemental and strengths-based approach.

i) IT skills for record-keeping, emails, Word, Excel and using the internet.

j) Good literacy and numeracy appropriate to the role.

k) A commitment to providing equality of opportunity to people regardless of their faith, gender, race, disability, marital status, social class, age or sexual preference.

l) Must be able to work on Wednesdays – our busiest day.

Desirable:

Knowledge of welfare benefits, local housing options, community resources and support services.
Relevant qualification in advice, housing, community work or a related field.
Knowledge/understanding of safeguarding.
Lived experience will be valued and welcomed.

Additional Information:

Based @The Hub, this role may involve some travel around the local area of Ross-on-Wye and occasionally Hereford and its environs.

Flexible working patterns may include some evening or weekend work.

Training, supervision and reflective practice support will be provided.

The role is subject to DBS / background checks due to the vulnerable nature of our client group.

Our opening hours are: Mon, Thurs, Fri 8.30am – 12.30pm, Wed 8.30am – 2.30pm. This post will work on Wednesdays plus two other sessions (to be agreed).
