Digital Content Editor

Location: Remote, with monthly attendance at our Colchester office

About the Role:
A chance to work for a UK leading media brand serving the independent food and drink retail sector, connecting thousands of retailers, producers, wholesalers and hospitality professionals through our website, newsletters, social media channels and print magazine. We are looking for an ambitious and commercially minded Digital Content Editor to help drive the next phase of our growth across both digital and print platforms. This is a dynamic role combining editorial excellence with audience development. You will create high-quality content that informs and inspires our audience while helping grow website traffic, newsletter engagement, social media communities and overall brand loyalty. Working closely with editorial and commercial teams, you will play a key role in shaping content strategy, identifying audience opportunities through SEO and analytics, and helping strengthen Speciality Food’s position as the leading voice of the independent food and drink retail sector.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial Content Creation
- Research, write and edit high-quality editorial content for both digital and print platforms
- Produce magazine content including features, interviews, retailer profiles and sector analysis
- Interview retailers, producers, wholesalers and industry experts to create engaging and authoritative content
- Monitor emerging food, drink and retail trends and develop timely, relevant editorial coverage
- Attend industry events, launches and trade shows to source content and strengthen industry relationships
Digital Audience Growth
- Identify and develop content opportunities using SEO research and audience insights
- Use tools including Google Analytics and SEMrush to monitor content performance and identify growth opportunities
- Develop data-led content strategies focused on increasing website traffic, engagement and audience retention
- Ensure all digital content is optimised for discoverability, search performance and user engagement
Newsletter and Audience Engagement
- Produce and manage daily newsletters with a focus on improving open rates and click-through performance
- Create content strategies that drive engagement across website, newsletter, social media and print channels
- Repurpose existing content across multiple platforms to maximise reach and audience value
- Support initiatives designed to strengthen audience loyalty and increase subscriber growth
Social Media and Multimedia
- Support the planning and execution of social media strategy across key channels
- Create engaging platform-specific social media content designed to grow audience and encourage interaction
- Monitor social media trends and identify new opportunities for audience growth and engagement
- Support community management and audience conversations across social platforms
- Assist in developing new content formats including short-form video, multimedia content and visual storytelling
- Design simple graphics and digital assets using Canva or similar tools
Commercial and Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with the commercial team to support sponsored content opportunities while maintaining strong editorial standards
- Upload and manage website content through the CMS
- Ensure digital content is published accurately and maintains a high-quality user experience
- Work closely with editorial, sales and marketing teams on integrated campaigns and projects
- Support audience engagement initiatives, events and wider brand development activities
Skills and ExperienceEssential
- Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills
- Strong editorial judgement and storytelling ability
- Experience creating content for both digital and print audiences
- Good understanding of SEO principles and experience using SEO tools such as SEMrush
- Experience using Google Analytics to monitor content performance and identify opportunities
- Experience creating and managing email newsletters
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and content best practice
- Experience using content management systems (CMS)
- Excellent interviewing, research and networking skills
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines while working independently
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Commercial awareness and understanding of audience development strategies
Desirable
- Experience creating video or multimedia content
- Experience designing content using Canva or similar design tools
- Experience using project management platforms such as Jira
- Understanding of the food, drink, retail or hospitality sectors
- Experience working within B2B publishing or trade media
