What is the best part of working at the company?
I received intensive training and was initially exposed to working across eight different houses, as well as supporting service users in the community. This experience allowed me to work with a wide variety of service users, giving me fresh and valuable learning opportunities each working day.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Managing some of the Service Users with extreme anxiety issues during some of their meltdown times.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Mixed culture, as I moved from one manager to the other, each time. Each house has a manager.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Arrived; service users still in bed; take over from staff signing off; check communication book for instructions, check food board for service users’ meals;  identify day’s activities (from personal care to breakfast, shopping, gym, outdoor/indoor activities, music, etc.); begin to provide support to service users as planned, thinking ahead to fill up any gaps; write reports.

Care by us used to be a very good, family run business that cared about its employees. Since City and County took over it is obvious that profit is their only concern. 
The amazing team has been reduced to a dangerously low number to reduce costs. Carers cannot be supported as there are just not enough people to answer their calls. 
This employer has pitched themselves as wanting to be the best place to work, in reality they have no idea what is going on in the offices. When feedback is provided they argue and say it is an isolated case. I feel sad for the small team that were left to manage after the redundancy culling. Morale is low and the good managers have been driven out by incompetence from above. 


I arrive at work and manage the calls for the 6 carers on duty, 9 times out of 10 we are short staffed and I have to stand in and help the carers out with their calls which makes this very frustrating as I could be in a call and I may get an emergency call from another resident.  I have learnt how to manage my daily work load very well. The Care Manager doesn't really have much authority on making decisions as any decision made has to be made by a manager in the office.  The workplace is a very pleasant place to work we have a great time and all work very well together. The hardest part of the job is when we are short staffed as it puts pressure on myself and the other carers.  The most enjoyable part of my job is that its very rewarding being able to make a difference in peoples lives.

Care By Us is a great place to work. The Company tries to be as flexible as possible to accommodate people's needs as they change.

They are big on developing people both with training and career opportunities; and even though they are a larger company, it still feels like a small Family run business.

The environment at Care By Us is incredibly open, friendly and supportive; and the company has been amazing in terms of supporting staff when they have had problems in their personal lives.

The environment is very professional and if you embrace that professionalism you will learn a lot.

Used to be an amazing family run company who treated their staff amazing when the previous directors ran the company but they left  just after COVID. Since City & County took over, this company has gone so downhill. The office has gone from around 80 people to around 10, City and County made so many people redundant which includes the finance department, HR and other small departments. It’s now impossible to get through to the office as no one ever answers the phones, we are now just numbers to them and not people. Sadly I do not see this company lasting much longer. They do not pay properly, always some kind of issue going on and it’s now just poor communication. Such a shame. 

After completing my week training I felt extremely confident with regards to starting work. Especially knowing there is a whole team of people on the end of the phone if I am ever not sure about anything at all.
The work is always there if you want it. Progression is available and the staff and management team are incredibly helpful. 
I turned down another care company to take up the offer here, even though it was slightly less hourly wage. I do not regret it. I see a bright future with the Care By Us.

The most enjoyable part of my job was knowing that I assisted the SU to live a fuller life as independent as possible enabling them to remain in their own home. 

Hardest part of the job was not having the time needed to spend any quality time with patients that they deserve.

Most enjoyable part of the job was working a team who support each other and always have the SU best interests in mind.

you will want to be part of the team and respected on the same level as everyone else. This does not happen. You will be used. You will feel helpful and good about yourself until you realised you are being walked over. there comes a point where the level of toxic stuff that goes on in the “above management” is shocking. Your view is not heard or considered on anything even though your the one in the front line and fully aware of the situations or scenarios. 
You do your best to gain trust. The owners don’t know half of what goes on due to their choice of management

The pressure as a live in carer for this company can be overwhelming specially when we did Delirium coming out of Watford Hospital this was very demanding and no extra pay. Sometimes not enough back up and inspection of the places we go to. On several occasions live in care I had no access to shower or shower head to wash my hair. End of life care and hospital beds we have no double ups to help with bed baths etc. also breaks has not been arranged properly from the companies original assessment. They take packages on but not with much thought for the live in carers accommodation’s.

I still work for this company however wil be leaving as soon as my 2nd job has more hours to offer. 
National minimum wage is the rate of their pay - not enough for the work we do or the cost of living crisis, no bonuses, no incentives, an extra £1 an hour to work days like Christmas, New Year or bank holidays, and not forgetting the higher staff talk to you like you're rubbish and not worth their time! Care costs are extortionate for the elderly.. so why are we paid so poorly?! 
Honestly, find a care company you are valued by. This one is not it.
