Douglas-Macmillan-Hospice

I am a volunteer Store Assistant and I work two days a week for 3 hours a day in Dougie Mac Warehouse/Shop. Within those hours, I look after the shop floor by tidying up the clothes racks and ensure cleanliness of the floor. Also provide customer service and assistance.
That's not all, the workplace is flexible. You won't stay in one job for too long, unless you enjoy it, then more fun for you. Multitasking is also possible.
Management and Staff praise you for your hard work and appreciates your time spent in helping Dougie Mac be the best it is today. They are very helpful, always willing to have a moment to listen to you and support you.
Customers are either returning or first timers, different walks of life. Always happy to shop here due to the place having a good variety of items and clothing, good prices and friendly Staff.
It can get busy and short-staffed at times. If you have nothing to do during your day, come to Dougie Mac and spend some time here, whether to shop or to volunteer for couple of hours (to volunteer, signing up is required). You will enjoy it and will learn a thing or two.

The bullying by more senior staff was unbelievable means as the setting is supposed to be a caring one. 
 Management team lacked management skills. In my opinion some of the nurses were nice but a large group of nurses and carers were quite nasty Inc some team leaders. The Management turn a blind eye to the staff causing trouble as its all very clicky. Holidays rejected unless you're in the 'click'.  Nurses and carers spend more time scrolling their own phones in unofficial breaks than looking after patients. Very high turn over of staff,  I witnessed a few members of staff walking out.  It's totally changed my opinion of the place and I wouldn't like a relative of mine to go  there. I heard carers tutting and swearing under their breath when patients pressed buzzers or called out for help. Uncomfortable place to work with no support. 

I’ve work in the inpatient unit for around 4 months. It is honestly the happiest I have ever felt in a job. I can honestly see me staying at Dougie Mac until retirement age. The staff have welcomed me with open arms and the atmosphere is so friendly and supportive. The job itself although can be very emotionally challenging is also extremely rewarding. The families are going through a lot and it’s a privilege to be able to be there to support them and their loved one. Highly recommend working at Dougie Mac to anyone. Beautiful place to work. The food is also *chefs kiss* 💋 The one and only downside is the shifts can be long and tiring but they are worth it. 

Over the time i was working with the Douglas Macmillan I had a lot of laughs with both customers and staff and even though i was everywhere doing lots of different things i still found the time to interact with the customers and make the shop a better place so there would be more business coming in for the Douglas Macmillan.

After i left the Douglas Macmillan they were very respective of the time i did for them and the hard work I displayed as i got a letter through the post saying "Thank you for your time and hard work. We would like you to attend a disco night which comes with the letter as this is a token of our appreciation for the work you put in and expanding our business."

If you want to look after patients dealing with life limiting illness in all areas of care then douglas macmillan Hospice is it. Shifts can get busy and it's hard work but knowing your providing support towards patients and their families in their difficult times is rewarding. Pay varies on you job experience. Shifts patterns can be tiring so unless it suits your personal life its not always suitable. Hospice cooked foods/ cakes are lovely and reasonable priced. Free parking. Some opportunities for training.

A typical day can be anything I could be dealing with returns I could be dealing with letter opening and filling or I could be inputting the ticket sales on to the system. I learnt about the different programs used there over the past year. The co-workers are magnificent always friendly, are a good laugh and even though they are are older I did not feel like I was being spoken down too.

Working in this environment meant I got to work with a variety of people and understand how they actually go about their day. About how they go and pick the individuals up who can't make it on their own or need assistance. How they communicate with them and support then. Overall I feel this is a warming, welcoming environment to work in.

Most staff nice, used to be a nice place to work but the current executive team treat the organisation as their cash cow, over inflating their own salaries to feed their own greed for money. Overall the executive team are lazy and greedy and ruining what was once a decent charity.
