I believe this team is involved with scams - they hired me to do the job, gave me no work to do with a broken computer on my first day and booted me out at the end because ‘I didn’t have experience.’ It seems to me they already had the work there, and were forced to hire an admin support officer by someone else.

They are lazy workers, who have smoking breaks every minute of the day, gossip and do not work at all. It is more like a social cult or gathering - they do not do work at all here. It is horrible and upsetting to see as social services are SO important, and the employees here are just not committed at all.

There are also members of this office who are racist.

They are completely desensitised to important issues. I am not able to discuss what was said but what I heard and witnessed was upsetting and appalling.

They are also ageist, and will only welcome 40/50 year old Karen's. And that’s the truth.

It is also in a horrible environment, it is in a house in the middle of nowhere that has been transformed into offices. They also DO NOT apply to any COVID rules and restrictions, I was pressured to take my mask off a lot of the time when I clearly wasn’t comfortable, and there was a lack of hand sanitiser.

The management is poor, patronising and belittling.

Working at Hertfordshire Local Council as a Warehouse Operative has been a positive experience overall. A typical day at work involved managing inventory, organising stock, and ensuring that goods were properly stored and distributed. The work was well-structured, and I appreciated the clear guidance provided by the management. The team was supportive and collaborative, which created a positive workplace culture. I learned a lot about efficient warehouse management and the importance of attention to detail in maintaining accurate inventory records. The management was approachable and always willing to offer support, which made it easier to perform my duties effectively.

The hardest part of the job was handling large volumes of stock during peak periods, which required quick thinking and efficient teamwork. However, this challenge was balanced by the most enjoyable part of the job, which was the satisfaction of seeing everything run smoothly at the end of a busy day. The camaraderie among colleagues made the work environment enjoyable, and the sense of accomplishment after completing a demanding task was incredibly rewarding. Overall, Hertfordshire Local Council is a great place to work, offering both a supportive environment and opportunities for learning and growth.

Virtually nobody in the County Hall office which made it pointless to travel into work, so I can see why they are moving to Stevenage (not that it'll improve office attendance as EVERYONE is complaining about it as they live the other side of Hertford). 

Everyone who has been WFH since COVID has stayed at home ever since - so much for productivity, team building and morale. If you're new, you'll be marginalised and ignored, as everyone else who has been at HCC for a number of years has built up positive relationships pre-pandemic (when they uses to come into the office 5 days a week!). Almost worked here for a year and there were still people in the team I didn't meet face to face.

During the first couple of weeks of induction everything seems hunky dory... Once you've learnt the ropes of the role, you'll get showered with a ridiculous workload by a Line Manager who doesn't care and should be doing some of it themselves.

They harp on about employee wellbeing and engagement, but will do absolutely nothing until it hits breaking point - I had to get a Dr's note in order to be listen to by management and Directors.

Avoid, avoid, avoid.

I had to leave my job as a teachers assistand due to personal difficulties that where occuring in my life. I loved the job that i done, im a very caring person and elderly and children are what tend to make me feel like im achiving great things in my life. The management i  had was great and i had a brilliant relationship with a good few. If i had an issue i wouldnt hessitate to talk about it with my manager as she was very inviting and friendly.  The other staff members i worked with made it very difficult for me as i was the youngest member of the team and felt like i was looked down on.I didnt have the knowledge or exsperiance but i was to learn, and become like the rest. the hardest part of my job was the paper work and the nvq i was in the process of completing, im much more of a hands on person. it was also very hard dealing with children that had severve behaviour problems but at the same also very rewarding. I was given a massive oppertunity as i started with nothing, i then went on to leave with a load of exsperiance, first aid, nvq and many other course based certificates.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
It is not stressful for me as I do enjoy making posite impact in the lives of others.

The first thing I did would be to sit in on a hand over from the previous staff on shift then work out a shift plan so that the other 2 staff I am working with will each know what they will be doing. I would read all the messages and diary to find out about any incidents, any health problems of the service users in the home, read any daily reports on each service user. I learned that you need a lot of patience and empathy to work with people with complex needs. I also realised how important it was to work as a team, to have trust and faith that we are all working in the same way. The most enjoyable part of the job was being part of the service users lives, seeing the joy on their faces when a achieved a small goal, or were able to express themselves without fear of someone criticised or ridiculed.

Upon arriving at my job I pick up my paper work and folder , check the work sheet up for the day.I then proceed to my bus where I do a vehicle  check. I start with an overall check. I will then check the tyre pressure, oil and so on. Many of the service users are regular so you no what days certain users require the service. when I arrive at any destination and don't get any answer I contact my manager and make them aware of the situation. I will then contact my co-worker as they maybe the nominated driver picking the service user up and inform them of the situation. I will drop my passenger of to there destination take them in as in some cases they can be going to a club or a day centre.. The hardest part of the job is Traffic.. The most enjoyable is the service user and knowing you are providing a service to people who other wise would not get out.

Being a youth support worker, no day is ever the same. It is such a rewarding job, and I absolutely love it. Fellow staff mem are supportive, and we do a fantastic job. 

However, there is poor management. Management cut projects, and then do not make any provision for your hours which you have lost. Then they say they want to cut your hours because they can't find another project for you to do, which then causes unbelievable stress because your income has been reduced, and you feel that the work you are doing is not valued.

Some districts are good because they have regular staff meetings with part time workers which management attend. Other districts don't have regular staff meetings, and management avoids at all costs. 

Overall, it can be a lovely place work, if you have great leadership from management.

I have learnt the the benefits of having a stable life whilst working with vulnerable children and have appreciated the upbringing I ahve had coonpared to the young people I ave encountered.
I enjoy being able to amke a difference in their life and to help them achieve their ambitions however small they are.
It can be heart breaking hearing abotu their upbringing but fulfilling when you know the trust is there that they are able to tell you asbout their life.
It is diffciult being objective and trying to understand their feelings towards the person who has done them harm.
The Socail work team cannot be faulted and give both me ad the young person I work with a great deal of support and this support is not 9-5 as my caring role is not 9-5.

Flexible working hours allows me to schedule my day around my workload and personal commitments and provides a good work/home balance. Working in such a large team  within Highways means there is always support from colleagues and a wealth of experience to learn from, this helped me to progress in my role and achieve a promotion within a year. My job is challenging due to network demand and managing those competing demands while minimising the impact on our network. I've built good relationships with everyone within my team and it's a great environment to work in. HCC have adopted a smart working policy which means I can work from home or other offices minimising my travel and saving me time and money.
