I worked as an employment coach within the day service,  however because the day service ended this meant the people that I supported in work who had learning disabilities were dumped, there were 5 adults who I supported they all worked as kitchen staff after the day centres they worked in closed down the ladies and gentlemen I supported were simply made redundant they had no ongoing support I was not given extra time to help them transition into another job, the country council simply left them with nothing, they have all suffered from stress and finding new employment with now no support has been extremely difficult for them all, this is not the kind of place I would consider a caring, supportive or professional way to treat the employees that they were meant to be supporting. The country council did have other people in posts supporting adults with disabilities in jobs and those people who I supported were not transferred into that department so they could continue to get support, when the day service was winding down I was actually not allowed to go into work because my leg was in plaster I could have very easily worked in an office space and made sure the staff I supported were taken care of I would have ensured they were transferred from my support to that of the other employment support staff and helped them source other jobs, the thing was an absolute disgrace, I have kept in touch with three of the staff and helped them as much as I can in my own time but this is not how it should have to be, these adults trusted the council and the Staffordshire county council simply abandoned them.  

When I first started at thos place, we had some decent management, management who valued you, no matter what your position in the department, but this soon changed, and with this, so did the work environment, this turning quite toxic, quite quickly.

You had senior team members of staff trying oust the person at the top, and being quite open about this, the person at the top being one of the nicest people that you could meet.

Along with this, staff were constant being micro-managed and treated with contempt if they dare to answer back, and the only way around this, was if your face fitted, in this instance, you got good runs, and very little hassle, but if it didn't, then you could expect to do anything up to 90 miles plus per shift, covering areas that you never signed up for, and there would be no use complaining, as they really wouldn't care, as you were there to do a job, end of, and if you didn't like it, then you know where the door is.

The only three decent things in this job, are the pay, some of the staff are actually really nice (but there aren't many that are), and the clients, past that, if you want a job where you literally aren't just a number, you're actually lower, then this is it.

A typical day at work could be spent on duty where we deal with incoming phone calls and deal with incoming e-mails or processing a new application. I may have to conduct an interview with a trader.  I have learned so much from this position over the last nine years including never to take an applicant at face value.  I have unravelled many interesting stories.

The management are very supportive in our work and each application we process has to be submitted to a Senior Officer for final quality checks before submission to The Head of Regulation for a decision.  We work very closely with other Enforcement teams within the Unit who visit the businesses to ensure they are complying with the rules and regulations.

I work with a broad range of very intelligent people including ex police officers and Solicitors.  There is also a very broad age range.  There tends to be a lot of witty banter going on which brightens up the day.

One of the hardest parts of the job I supposes if the applicant is refused authorisation as a lot of hard work has gone into the process.

The most enjoyable part of the job is being able to speak to the   Director of the business to inform him he is authorised to trade and to wish him good luck in his new venture

First of all the day could start with a member of staff going off sick so immediately her work would have to be covered so as not to keep service users waiting, as some get very anxious when the time is different to there normal time.
When dealing with staff I was always taught from the beginning to be firm, fair,curtious listen to ideas and opinions also I have always said you should treat people how you would like to be treated yourself with respect. 
To manage staff you need to be a good listener and understanding to there needs as well as ensuring they are fit to carry out there work.
The staff that I worked with were a good crowd they were always willing to help out in a crisis with no complaints.
The hardest part of the job was fitting new service users onto rotas and trying to accommodate the times which they chose also not to make the rotas too long for the staff to work.
The most enjoyable part of the job was to go into a service user any time of the day and see the look of joy on there face because many of them don't see any body all day or have any family that they can call on.

There is a great learning curve, having worked in children's services has provided me with so much knowledge that I would never have obtained otherwise. 
Caseloads are high for social workers, there's some staff turnover, a lot of the times admin need to remind safeguarding teams to complete their part so admin can get on with theirs. Often we end up training safeguarding staff on paperwork as they have not received training from their team managers. There is a lot of chasing deadlines. 
The salary is definitely not good enough for the amount of responsibility we deal with.

On the positive, my team is great and we get on like a house on fire, the manager is amazing and very understanding. 
Flexi time is another good thing about this job, although they don't seem to be thrilled when you end up using it fully. 

Overall, a good place to work to gain experience and learn about the safeguarding process but if you are looking to progress, you may need to change departments. 

I've worked only certain times and hours per week it was contract work.

Worked with management it was a big office with different departments i did the typing of documents/ binding files / data entry and all the scanning of old files to get it on the system and retrieval of info on the system.

Management was always a joy to work for always willing to help and teach me new things of how it worked there.

Hardest part of the job I would say was seeing how people can react when their kids doesn't go to school and come on the property to threatening staff because they don't have food to eat.

Most enjoyable was to meet everyone and having lunches with the people, go and visiting them after work and really learn their culture.

Also difficult was the time when the bombings where going off in London and all the communication lines where dead for few hours after that but they handled it like super stars.... nothing get those people under

Good:
1) Friendly co-workers, most of the time willing to support, although can't meet expectation due to skill problems, e.g. when asking about a business mapping or data structure, it was out of the scope.
2) Flexi working. You can start early and off early, or start late or finish late, as long as you cover the core hours Mon - Friday, and hit 37.5 hours a week.
3) Work from home opportunities, sometimes 1 day / week in the office only.

Bad:
1) For new hirers, no proper onboarding procedure. Result: you ended up like an ant in a hot pot. No structured induction whatsoever. You'll have to find your own way to get around it, and this causes stress - unnecessary stress.
2) Many of the business operations have not been properly documented, so if you are new, you ended up asking around with often no proper answers, because there is nothing to reference.  In this sense, it's below the bar.
3) Pay is average.

Conclusion:
Depends on how you see it and what department you're in.

You are expected to work as part of a team, even if you do spend a large chuck of the time at your individual station; but communication is important often very good between colleagues and other people who pass by on a semi-regular basis. Learning that reading body language in order to show adaptability and willingness to support your colleagues is a must, without prior training. Management is the ability to control a scenario without necessary communications with area supervisor, with trust already established a must. The hardest part of the job, is the lack of hours, due to positions being set in stone, and not much flexibility, but is positive in being permanent as opposed to temporary. Enjoying the regular communications, and reliable information, with everyone on a level playing field, despite different hours/responsibilities.

Friendly and easy going work place.

I worked at Blythe bridge high school as a part time lunch time supervisor.

The job was relatively easy going, and below I will provide the responsibilities of the role:

•Presenting a professional and friendly impression to all attendants and colleagues. 
 
•Supervising an average of 500 students during their lunch hour. 
 
•Upholding safety guidelines around the area to ensure attendants were 
safe at all costs.

•Cleaning and maintaining the hall after Lunch time was over in order to keep the area hygienic and fresh for attendants.

I Achieved the ‘Families First’ Certificate to certify that I had ‘attended Level One Safeguarding and Promoting the Welfare of Children Training for adults working in the education sector’

Day or so before, check which class I'm taking and level, ensure notes and handouts are up-to-date, attend the class early, set up, welcome candidates, deliver class, interact and support everyone, get feedback at end of session. Read feedback give thought on how to improve, what did work what did'nt. Feedback to management.
Good support from management, very supportive, good strong support from fellow colleagues, great team.
Hardest part of the job - Time to do everything and fit it all in.
Enjoyable part, seeing the smiling faces and verbal, written feedback knowing that the candidates have gone away happy and looking forward to applying to their job roles.
