Typical day - sat at a desk for 90% of the work placement, so not a job if you want to be active with your legs.. You know what you're getting into with script checking so you have to be prepared for potential boredom with the endless marking of GCSE exam scripts. The jobs main role is to ensure the marks on the system correspond with the marks on the papers, and to check whether any mistakes have been made by the initial marker. Then you have to deal with the issue with form filling in and letting the permanent higher up members of staff know any issues to be resolved.

Learned - How much goes into marking the exam scripts from GCSE and A Level behind the scenes from the initial marking to when the marks are released to the students.

Management - Tough but fair. Enjoyed working there because although you're not allowed phones or any equipment like that, it is still relaxed and can be a fun atmosphere working with 40/50 other people doing the same job in the same room.

Hardest part - Toward the end of the summer placement some people are selected to file away the checked papers, and they are stored in a massive filing room that has barely any fresh air getting to it so that can be a struggle in the peak of summer!

Enjoyable - Working with mainly people you don't know and forming many new friendships whilst working. The people employed are generally from similar backgrounds i.e teachers, former teachers, students, former students etc.

Top heavy company 
You can work there years and stay on the same grade and people will come in from outside and jump over your head and up the ladder.
Asked for job reevaluation time after time nothing changed.
Basic salary for doing a job way above my pay scale. 
If you disagree with something or voice your opinion you never progress - very much a "not what you know but who you know" company. 
HR useless 
They say they can't increase wages for those at the bottom yet create new "directors" and managers jobs all the time.
Those at the bottom who do the work don't rewarded for the hardwork they do. 
Spread across two sites . Both different. 
Cardiff office workers get to WFH
Trefforest workers don't .

I very much enjoyed my time at the WJEC as I was able to develop administrative skills over a steady three and a half months and my main job was to assist with collating, scanning and filing exam papers. I learned that even the most basic administrative tasks must be approached professionally and efficiently.

I cannot praise the management enough; very friendly and supportive throughout my time. This was also the same with the rest of my colleagues which made for a very positive workplace culture. There were not too many hard aspects of the job and the most enjoyable part of the job was getting to know new people who will be helpful networks in the future.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Supportive, friendly team. Flexible working. I have examined for AQA and OCR, but have found WJEC by far the best.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Examining is a pressured job, because the hopes and dreams of students and parents are in your hands, but it’s not stressful as the team are supportive.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Approachable, non-judgemental, friendly 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Examine, Examine, Examine- as much or as little as you feel able each day, within the targets set.

Oh boy, the things we do for cash. 
It was an unusual one, first time working while homeless which meant I had to shower at work and leave my towel to dry on a chair in the actual working space.
The work itself (marking exam papers) was Monotonous with a capital M to an extent the numbers began scattering along the page. Much coffee needed (fortunately they had a machine). I would have preferred some variety which was never offered. I continued on the basis that it was money and maybe they would then hire me on for a better job. They didn't and that interview was a total farce.

I enjoy the intellectual challenge of being an examiner.  It has also given me a chance to use and develop my people skills (especially when working as a visiting oral examiner)
The management (especially Chief and Principal examiners) are friendly and make me/us feel that what I/we say matters.
The hardest part of the job is that deadlines can be tight, and that you work on your own (when marking)
The most enjoyable part is going round the schools conducting oral exams.

Working for WJEC has been a very rewarding experience. From the moment I had my interview I felt supported and comfortable. Everyone has been welcoming and friendly and I have been given support and encouragement that has made settling into my role a great experience. 

A great temporary job for those who are at University and need extra cash quickly. A job where you meet people and have great camaraderie. Management was good and working with co-workers was fun.

I enjoyed this position a lot as I helped out in different departments. The staff were very friendly and even being a temp, you were offered flexi-time which was helpful when traffic was bad.

Excellent awarding body to work for. Give excellent training and very supportive management. Good pay for the work although this can take some time to come through and travelling around can be tough.
