Commis Chef

About the Role

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Commis Chef to join our kitchen team at Pastures Lodge & Hotel. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to develop their culinary skills in a busy kitchen, working alongside experienced chefs preparing fresh food for our restaurant, carvery, weddings, functions and events.

As a Commis Chef, you will assist with food preparation, maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety, and help ensure every guest receives a great dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

Assisting with the preparation and cooking of menu items.
Preparing ingredients including vegetables, salads, sauces and garnishes.
Supporting the senior chefs during service.
Ensuring food is prepared to company standards and recipes.
Maintaining high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and organisation.
Following all food safety and HACCP procedures.
Correctly storing and rotating stock using FIFO procedures.
Assisting with deliveries and stock storage.
Keeping kitchen equipment clean and in good working order.
Helping with cleaning duties at the end of each shift.
Working across restaurant service, carvery, weddings and functions as required.
Supporting colleagues to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
Reporting any maintenance or health and safety concerns to the Head Chef or Sous Chef.
Carrying out any other reasonable duties requested by the kitchen management team.

What We're Looking For

Previous kitchen experience is desirable but not essential.
A genuine passion for food and hospitality.
Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Reliable, punctual and hardworking.
