Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Mechanic and MOT Tester to join our professional team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of vehicle makes and models, ensuring they meet all safety standards required for MOT testing. This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilise your mechanical expertise within a busy workshop environment, providing essential services to our valued customers. The position involves performing MOT tests in accordance with legal requirements and delivering high-quality vehicle repairs efficiently and accurately.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive vehicle diagnostics to identify mechanical issues using specialised tools and equipment.
Perform repairs and maintenance on vehicles, including engine work, brake systems, suspension, exhausts, and electrical components.
Carry out MOT testing in compliance with current legislation, ensuring all vehicles meet safety and environmental standards before passing or advising on necessary repairs.
Utilise hand tools and power tools effectively to carry out repairs and servicing tasks.
Assist with vehicle inspections, ensuring thorough checks are completed for each service or MOT test.
Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and test results in accordance with company procedures.
Ensure the workshop remains clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
Assist colleagues as needed in a fast-paced environment to deliver excellent customer service.

Skills

Proven mechanical knowledge with experience working on a variety of vehicle types.
Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when handling vehicle parts or equipment.
Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate diagnostics and repairs.
Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks efficiently.
Knowledge of current MOT testing procedures and legislation is desirable but not essential; training can be provided for the right candidate.
Excellent communication skills to explain technical issues clearly to customers.
