Who we are

Our purpose at My Finance Function is simple: to provide a full finance function to owner-managed businesses, creating cost savings compared with hiring an in-house finance team. We are blazing a trail in the accountancy industry in the way that we operate and our primary focus is being a genuinely vital part of our clients businesses by operating as an extension of their internal team, and working closely with them to provide the absolute best advice. We don't operate as a traditional accountancy firm, but our foundations are built upon all of the same qualities.

About the role & the opportunity

Stepping up your career in accountancy has never been more exciting – the industry is in the midst of its evolution into the digital era with the rapid and constant evolution of software and apps which enable business owners to have oversight of their finances in ways like never before. This role has a keen focus around technology - you will be using various software and apps to streamline and improve the day-to-day data management, bookkeeping and accounting services which My Finance Function delivers to its clients. Alongside your responsibilities at work, you will undertake a training contract (apprenticeship agreement) and study towards completing the ACA qualification. My Finance Function will provide paid study leave and will fully fund your studies towards becoming ACA qualified.

Candidate profile

We want people who seek something different to the compliance-heavy focus of a traditional accountancy firm, and who see the opportunity there is to deliver a type of service which hasn't been available to small business owners before. The ideal candidate will have a genuine interest in the use of technology to improve the overall finance function for businesses, and have the drive to want to deliver the best possible advice for our clients to help them grow. A concrete understanding of basic bookkeeping processes and a solid understanding of basic accounts preparation will be vital.

It will be your responsibility to ensure that your clients' books and records are always kept as up-to-date as possible and are ready for their management information pack to be prepared after the end of each month.

You will also be responsible for finance function tasks for a variety of businesses, including 'finance@' email inbox management, liaising with internal members of clients' teams to resolve queries, raising and sending sales invoices, and reconciliation of key accounts.

Duties will include

Inputting accounting data from invoices and receipts using software such as Dext.
Assisting with transaction validation and reconciliations using software such as Quickbooks and Xero.
Researching and learning to effectively implement & use the accounting softwares which are available in the market which may be helpful to our clients.
To subsequently be able to identify opportunities to increase the efficiency of our clients’ bookkeeping processes or our own internal bookkeeping processes using such software.
Ensuring that accounting records are complete and up to date on a regular and timely basis for the clients which you are involved with.
Carrying out the monthly/quarterly bookkeeping responsibilities for a portfolio of clients, including processing invoices and expenses, bank reconciliations, VAT reconciliations and accounting journals.
Managing items from an 'accounts@' inbox, such as identifying and processing purchase invoices, and responding to our clients' customer/supplier queries.
Liaising with clients in person and via email, telephone and video calls when necessary.

Desired qualifications & experience

1+ years’ experience within an accountancy-based role.
AAT in-training.
GCSE's in English and Maths at Grade 5/B or above.
Full UK driving licence.

Essential skills & knowledge

Tech-proficient – must be confident and comfortable learning and using new software and accounting-related apps.
Must have some experience using bookkeeping and invoice-entry software - Quickbooks, Xero, Dext, AutoEntry, etc.
Must be numerate and have good literacy and general communication skills.
Conscientious and organised, must be able to prioritise and organise workload to work to tight deadlines.
Confident and personable.
Hard-working, trustworthy and diligent, must have good attention to detail and take pride in presenting accurate work.
The ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Have experience managing bookkeeping for multiple clients.
Good communication & writing skills and presentable & approachable persona.

Remuneration & benefits

Salary range £26,000 - £30,000 p.a., dependent upon experience
