Job Summary

Sous Chef

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Sous Chef to join our friendly and professional team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced chef who is passionate about producing high-quality food while enjoying an excellent work-life balance.

The role is based on a five-day working week, with flexibility to work weekends as part of the rota. Unlike many hospitality roles, there are no split shifts and very little evening work, with typical working hours of 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in the day-to-day operation of the kitchen, leading and supporting the team to deliver consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and service. You will also help maintain excellent food hygiene and safety standards while contributing new ideas and supporting the continued development of our catering operation.

Responsibilities

Assist the Head Chef in preparing and cooking high-quality dishes in accordance with restaurant standards.
Supervise and manage kitchen staff, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to health and safety regulations.
Oversee food production processes, maintaining consistency in taste, presentation, and portion control.
Coordinate daily kitchen operations, including inventory management and ordering supplies as needed.
Ensure compliance with food safety standards and maintain cleanliness throughout the kitchen environment.
Support training programmes for junior staff to develop their culinary skills and knowledge.
Collaborate with front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service delivery and customer satisfaction.
Contribute to menu planning, recipe development, and special event preparations.

Skills

Proven supervising experience within a busy kitchen environment.
Extensive food preparation and cooking skills, with a strong understanding of culinary techniques.
Excellent team management abilities, capable of motivating staff and fostering a positive work environment.
Solid knowledge of food safety regulations and best practices in hygiene standards.
Previous restaurant experience demonstrating versatility across various cuisines.
Strong leadership qualities with the ability to oversee multiple tasks efficiently under pressure.
Experience in hospitality settings, including serving guests when required.
Effective communication skills to coordinate with team members and front-of-house staff seamlessly.
