Job Description: Workshop Trainee / Delivery Technician
Companies: Kendals Restoration & Hamilton Billiards
Location: Newnham (near Baldock), SG7 5DP
Job Type: Full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay: £12.71-£13.25 per hour (depending on experience)
About Us
This is a unique opportunity to work across two highly respected sister companies.
Kendals Restoration is dedicated to the high-end restoration of fine antique and modern furniture. Hamilton Billiards specialises in manufacturing, restoring, and installing bespoke snooker and pool tables.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, hands-on Workshop Trainee / Delivery Technician to join our close-knit team. This dual-focused role offers the rare chance to learn a traditional craft from master restorers while also representing our brands directly to our clients.
The Role
Your week will be split between hands-on craftsmanship in the workshop and on-the-road deliveries and installations:
- Wednesdays (Kendals Delivery & Collection Day): You will operate as part of a friendly 2-man team helping to collect and deliver furniture (including sofas and heavy items) from the local area and North London. The role can involve some driving of the company vehicle.
- Other Days (Workshop & Installation): You will be based in our workshops learning the art of furniture restoration from our highly experienced restorer. You will also help build new snooker tables, assist in workshop assembly, restoring snooker tables and travel to customers' homes nationwide to install them.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop & Craftsmanship (Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri)
- Learn and apply traditional furniture restoration techniques under the guidance of our master restorer.
- Assist in building and preparing new snooker/billiard tables and bespoke wooden items.
- Assemble snooker tables in the workshop for photography or during the restoration process.
- Travel nationwide to assist in the precise assembly and installation of snooker tables in clients’ homes.
Deliveries & Collections (Wednesdays)
- Safely drive the company delivery van to various locations locally and in North London.
- Carefully load, transport, and unload heavy furniture (such as sofas and antique cabinets) as part of a 2-man team.
- Provide exceptional, polite, and professional face-to-face customer service during deliveries.
What We Are Looking For
- Age 25 or over (this is a strict requirement for our commercial vehicle insurance to allow you to drive the company van).
- A clean, valid UK driving license with experience driving a transit-style van.
- Physical fitness and stamina – this role involves heavy lifting, manoeuvring bulky furniture, and handling heavy slate/timber components.
- A genuine interest in woodwork, restoration, or hands-on manufacturing (previous experience is a plus, but a willing-to-learn attitude is key).
- Excellent customer service skills – you will be entering high-end client homes and must be polite, respectful and professional.
- Punctuality and reliability – our schedules rely heavily on team coordination and client appointments.
What We Offer
- Comprehensive, hands-on training in a highly specialized, traditional trade.
- A varied and active work week where no two days are the same.
- The opportunity to travel and see different parts of the country.
- A supportive, skilled, and friendly team environment.
- Competitive salary based on experience.
To Apply
If you are reliable, physically fit, eager to learn a lifelong trade, and love interacting with customers, we want to hear from you!
Please send your CV and a brief cover letter explaining why you are a great fit for this role.
