About CoverPilot

CoverPilot is a new commercial insurance brokerage being established in the North East. Our aim is to provide straightforward, responsive and knowledgeable insurance support to businesses, initially specialising in motor trade, garage and commercial fleet insurance.

We are building the business around strong relationships, modern technology and high standards of customer service. As an early senior appointment, you will have the opportunity to help shape the brokerage, its processes and its future growth.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Commercial Insurance Account Executive to join CoverPilot as our Head of Broking & Technical Operations.

This is a key role within the business and would suit someone who has previously worked as an Account Executive within a commercial insurance brokerage and has at least five years’ relevant industry experience.

The successful candidate will help establish CoverPilot’s broking operation, support the company through its regulatory and operational setup, develop relationships with insurers and underwriting partners, and oversee the delivery of high-quality insurance solutions to clients.

This is not simply a role within an established corporate structure. It is an opportunity to join at an early stage, influence how the business operates and potentially participate in its long-term success through share options.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day broking and technical insurance operations of CoverPilot.
Manage commercial insurance enquiries from initial contact through to quotation, placement and policy inception.
Build and maintain strong relationships with insurers, underwriting agencies, networks and other insurance partners.
Work with insurers and wholesale partners to secure appropriate cover and competitive terms for clients.
Develop CoverPilot’s initial product offering, with a particular focus on motor trade, garage and commercial fleet insurance.
Assess client requirements, gather risk information and prepare accurate insurance presentations.
Explain policy terms, exclusions, conditions and client obligations clearly.
Oversee renewals, mid-term adjustments and ongoing client servicing.
Support clients with claims notifications, documentation and communication with insurers.
Help develop compliant sales, disclosure, record-keeping and customer service processes.
Work closely with the directors and external compliance advisers during the company’s setup and regulatory authorisation process.
Assist with the selection and implementation of broking software, CRM systems, call recording and related technology.
Help create insurer placement strategies, operational procedures and staff training materials.
Maintain accurate records and ensure client files meet regulatory and internal quality standards.
Support the recruitment, training and supervision of additional broking and administrative staff as the business grows.
Contribute to the wider commercial strategy and development of CoverPilot.

Essential Experience

Candidates must have:

At least five years’ experience working within commercial insurance.
Previous experience working as a Commercial Insurance Account Executive.
Strong knowledge of the commercial insurance broking process.
Experience managing clients from initial enquiry through to placement and renewal.
Experience dealing directly with insurers, underwriters and wholesale insurance partners.
A sound understanding of FCA requirements, treating customers fairly and insurance conduct rules.
The ability to assess commercial risks and present them effectively to insurers.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
The confidence to take ownership of a senior operational role within a growing business.

Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

Experience with motor trade, garage, fleet or other motor-related commercial insurance products.
Experience helping to establish or grow an insurance brokerage.
Knowledge of insurer agency applications and developing insurer relationships.
Experience with Acturis, Open GI, BrokerCentral or similar broking systems.
Relevant Chartered Insurance Institute qualifications.
Experience supervising, mentoring or training other members of a broking team.
Existing relationships with commercial insurers, underwriting agencies or wholesale brokers.
Experience supporting an FCA authorisation application or working within a directly authorised brokerage.

Location

The role will be based at CoverPilot’s office in Ryton, near Newcastle upon Tyne, postcode area NE40.

We would ideally like to recruit someone who already lives in the North East or within a reasonable travelling distance of Ryton. Some flexibility may be considered for an exceptional candidate, but regular attendance at the Ryton office will be required.
