Chef Kitchen Assistant – Ds Klassic African Grill, Restaurant & Lounge

Location: 110 Icknield Street, Birmingham, B18 6RZ
Job Type: Full-time / Part-time (to be discussed at interview)
Work Location: In Person
Pay: From £13.00 per hour (negotiable depending on experience – to be discussed at interview)
Provisional Start Date: August (exact start date to be confirmed)

About Us

We are excited to be launching a newly refurbished Ds Klassic African Grill, Restaurant & Lounge in the heart of Birmingham. Under new management, we are building a passionate and dedicated team to deliver exceptional food, drinks and customer service in a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.

We are looking for a hardworking and enthusiastic Chef Assistant to support our kitchen team in preparing and delivering high uality dishes while maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety standards.

Job Summary

As a Chef Assistant, you will work alongside our chefs to help prepare ingredients, assist with food preparation, maintain a clean and organised kitchen, and ensure food is served to the highest standards. This is a hands-on role that requires teamwork, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

You will play an important role in supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the kitchen and ensuring guests enjoy an exceptional dining experience. Evening, weekend and late-night shifts will form part of this role.

Key Responsibilities

Assist chefs with food preparation and cooking tasks.
Prepare ingredients, including washing, chopping, measuring and portioning food.
Help with plating and presentation of dishes as directed by the chefs.
Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen at all times.
Wash kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas as required.
Ensure ingredients are stored correctly and stock is rotated appropriately.
Assist with receiving and storing deliveries.
Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Head Chef or General Manager.
Follow all food hygiene, allergen and Health & Safety procedures.
Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties, including late-night closing shifts where required.
Work collaboratively with chefs, waiting staff and management to ensure smooth restaurant operations.

Essential Requirements

Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen as a Chef Kitchen Assistant, Kitchen Assistant or similar role.
A genuine passion for food and hospitality.
Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Reliable, punctual and willing to learn.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends and late-night shifts.
A Level 2 Health & Safety qualification (or willingness to complete this qualification with our support).
Right to work in the UK.

Desirable

Experience preparing African cuisine or working within a grill or restaurant environment.
Knowledge of food hygiene and allergen regulations.
A Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene qualification.
Experience with stock rotation and food storage procedures.
