Sous Chef – Urbano32

Location: Urbano32, Chester
Position: Sous Chef
Reports to: Head Chef / General Manager

About Urbano32

Urbano32 is an independent city-centre pizza restaurant specialising in great pizza, quality ingredients and relaxed, friendly hospitality.

We’re looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sous Chef to become a key member of our kitchen team. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys a busy service, takes pride in the food they produce and can help lead and develop the kitchen team.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef and management team to ensure the kitchen runs smoothly, efficiently and consistently.

You’ll be expected to lead from the front during service, maintain our food and pizza standards and help create a positive, organised kitchen environment.

You’ll also be able to confidently take charge of the kitchen when the Head Chef is away.

Key Responsibilities

Support the Head Chef in the day-to-day running of the kitchen
Lead the kitchen team during busy services
Produce consistently excellent pizzas and dishes to Urbano32 standards
Ensure food is prepared, cooked and presented correctly every time
Maintain excellent standards of cleanliness, organisation and food hygiene
Help manage prep levels, stock rotation and ordering
Monitor portion control and minimise food waste
Assist with stocktakes and food-cost control
Ensure all food safety, allergen and HACCP procedures are followed
Train, support and develop junior members of the kitchen team
Help organise kitchen sections and staff during service
Communicate effectively with the front-of-house management team
Take responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef’s absence
Help maintain a positive, professional and enjoyable working environment
Contribute ideas for specials, menu development and improving kitchen systems

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

Has previous experience as a Sous Chef, Junior Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie
Is comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen
Has a genuine passion for pizza and quality food
Takes pride in consistency and attention to detail
Is organised and calm under pressure
Is reliable and takes responsibility
Enjoys leading and developing a team
Understands food safety, allergens and kitchen compliance
Can balance quality with sensible food-cost and waste control
Has a positive, team-first attitude
Is happy to be hands-on — this is very much a cooking and service role

Pizza experience would be a major advantage, but attitude, kitchen ability and willingness to learn are just as important.
