NVQ Level 3 Vehicle Mechanic / MOT Tester

Overview

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Vehicle Mechanic / MOT Tester to join our busy and growing workshop team at WJH Auto Ltd.

The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, servicing, and maintaining a wide range of cars and light commercial vehicles to a high standard. This role is ideal for an experienced technician with strong mechanical knowledge, good diagnostic ability, and a professional approach to workmanship and customer care.

An MOT Tester qualification would be preferred, but it is not essential for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

Diagnose vehicle faults and carry out repairs efficiently and accurately
Perform servicing, maintenance, inspections, and general mechanical repairs
Carry out MOT testing where qualified, including Class 4, 5 and 7 where applicable
Use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and workshop equipment safely
Read and interpret technical information, repair procedures, and manufacturer guidance
Complete vehicle health checks and report required work clearly
Maintain accurate job cards and records of work carried out
Ensure all work is completed in line with health and safety regulations and company standards
Work effectively as part of a team to keep the workshop running efficiently
Communicate professionally with colleagues and, where required, customers regarding vehicle repairs and maintenance needs
Maintain a clean, safe, and organised working environment

Qualifications and Experience

NVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or equivalent qualification
Proven experience working as a vehicle technician, mechanic, or in a similar role
MOT Tester qualification preferred, but not essential
Strong mechanical knowledge and diagnostic ability
Experience working on a wide range of cars and light commercial vehicles
Ability to use diagnostic tools and workshop equipment confidently
Good problem-solving skills with a practical and analytical approach
Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship
Good organisational and communication skills
Full UK driving licence preferred
