What do you want from work?
Do you want to simply deliver lessons and work through a timetable?
Or do you want to be the reason someone discovers they are capable of achieving far more than they ever believed possible?
Construction changes lives.
Not simply because it teaches someone how to build a wall, hang a door or plaster a room, but because it gives people confidence, purpose, independence and a career they can be proud of.
Some learners arrive with barriers that have made education difficult. They may need a different approach, more patience, more encouragement and someone who genuinely believes in their potential.
That someone could be you.
Because when a learner leaves your workshop standing a little taller, believing in themselves and taking their first steps towards employment, there really is no better feeling.
The Role
As our General Construction Tutor for SEN Learners, you will create an engaging, practical and supportive learning environment where construction becomes the vehicle for developing confidence, resilience and employability.
This is far more than teaching trade skills.
You will help learners develop practical ability alongside the life skills they need to succeed in employment and adulthood.
Every lesson has a purpose.
Every achievement matters.
Every learner's journey is different.
You will plan and deliver practical sessions across a range of construction disciplines including carpentry, bricklaying, plastering and painting and decorating, adapting your teaching style to meet individual learning needs and abilities.
You will demonstrate practical techniques, assess competency, monitor progress and attendance, and provide the encouragement and guidance that allows learners to develop both personally and professionally.
Working closely with colleagues, employers and support staff, you will ensure learners receive the right support at the right time, helping them overcome challenges and celebrate every success along the way.
This is a role where patience, empathy and encouragement are just as valuable as your trade knowledge.
What You'll Bring
You may already be an experienced construction tutor... or you may have spent years working in the construction industry and discovered that your greatest satisfaction comes from passing your knowledge on to others.
Either way, you'll understand that teaching is about far more than demonstrating practical skills.
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys helping people develop, who can adapt their approach to meet different learning needs and who understands that progress looks different for every individual.
You'll bring strong vocational experience within construction, excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust and confidence with learners.
Experience supporting learners with Special Educational Needs will be beneficial, along with an understanding of inclusive teaching, safeguarding and positive behaviour management.
Most importantly, you'll care.
You'll celebrate the small wins.
You'll remain patient when progress takes time.
And you'll never lose sight of the difference you're making.
Why This Role Matters
The practical skills you teach may last a lifetime and the confidence you build may change one.
Every learner who progresses into employment, further training or greater independence carries a little of your influence with them.
Years from now they may not remember every lesson but they will remember the tutor who believed in them when they needed it most.
