Full job description

Role Purpose

The Bakery Assistant is responsible for delivering a consistently high standard of customer service and product presentation across the shop floor. The role is often the first and most frequent point of contact with customers, playing a key part in shaping their overall experience of Knotts.

The role serves as a key point of interaction with customers, ensuring every customer receives a friendly, efficient and professional experience while maintaining high standards of product quality, cleanliness and organisation.

The role plays a central part in representing the Knotts brand, combining strong product knowledge, attention to detail and a positive, engaging approach to customer service.

Customer Service & Engagement

Provide friendly, attentive and efficient service to all customers
Engage confidently with customers, making eye contact, acknowledging them promptly and creating a welcoming first impression
Build positive interactions through conversation, product knowledge and a genuine interest in the customer
Take pride in how customers are served, ensuring they feel valued and well looked after
Respond positively to customer needs, questions or issues in a calm and helpful way
Ensure every interaction reflects the Knotts brand and leaves a positive impression

Product Knowledge & Sales

· Develop strong knowledge of Knotts products and offerings

· Support customers with product choices and recommendations

· Use product knowledge to guide customer choices and improve their experience, not just complete transactions

· Maintain awareness of key products, promotions and seasonal items

· Support upselling and product awareness through confident engagement

Shop Floor Standards & Presentation

· Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation and presentation

· Ensure counters, displays and service areas are clean, stocked and well presented

· Monitor product availability and communicate gaps to supervisors

· Ensure displays reflect brand standards and are consistently maintained

Service Flow & Efficiency

· Serve customers efficiently while maintaining quality of interaction

· Support smooth flow of service during busy periods

· Work at pace while maintaining attention to detail

Structure & Process

· Follow all operational processes, routines and checklists

· Maintain consistency in how tasks are completed

· Ensure standards are followed at all times

Role Boundaries

The Bakery Assistant is responsible for delivering service, maintaining standards and supporting shop operations.

The role does not lead shifts or manage staff.

By delivering strong service, maintaining high standards and representing the brand positively, the Bakery Assistant helps build customer loyalty and supports the reputation of Knotts as a quality, service-led business.

This role is a full time opportunity. Working hours across Monday to Saturday, with shifts scheduled between 8:00am and 6:00/7:00pm.

Pay: £12.71 per hour
