About Us
ROAR Events Agency is a full-service events agency creating exceptional business events, conferences, experiences, celebrations and incentive programs for organisations across Cambridge, the UK and internationally. We help clients find venues, develop event concepts and manage every aspect of delivery, from the initial idea through to the final night.
Alongside the agency we operate our late-night venue business and our live music and festival division. Between them these three businesses sell to a genuinely broad market: corporate event buyers, PAs and marketing teams, brands looking for partnerships and sponsorship, promoters, agents, and organisations who want to hire a venue outright.
That breadth is the opportunity in this role. Very few sales jobs let you pitch a pharmaceutical conference on Monday and a brand takeover of a nightclub on Thursday.
The Role
We are looking for a confident, ambitious and commercially minded salesperson to drive new business across all three parts of the group.
Your job is to find organisations that could use what we do, get in front of the right people, and turn those conversations into booked business. You will own the top of the pipeline: research, outreach, meetings, proposals and, increasingly, closing.
This is not a cold-calling role in the boiler-room sense. Our approach is built on intelligent prospecting, networking and understanding what a client is actually trying to achieve. The events industry runs on relationships, and the person who does well here will be the one who builds them.
We are open on level. If you have a proven B2B sales record, we will appoint you as Business Development Manager with the autonomy and targets to match. If you are earlier in your career with the right personality and drive, we will appoint at Executive level, potentially through a structured apprenticeship, and develop you. Tell us which you are, and we will have the right conversation.
Key Responsibilities
New Business
- Research and identify target organisations across all three divisions.
- Identify the decision-makers who buy event buyers, marketing and brand managers, PAs and EAs, HR and internal comms, promoters and agents.
- Make first contact by telephone, email, LinkedIn and face to face at events.
- Introduce the group and its divisions clearly and credibly.
- Arrange and attend discovery meetings, site visits and venue show-rounds.
- Build and maintain accurate prospect data and a clean pipeline.
- Run campaigns targeting specific sectors and geographies, with particular focus on technology, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, science and professional services organisations for the agency side.
- Sell venue hire, private events, brand partnerships and sponsorship for the nightclub and music divisions.
Relationships and Networking
- Build relationships with prospective clients long before they have a live requirement.
- Represent the group at networking events, exhibitions, industry evenings and our own events.
- Develop relationships with venues, hotels, suppliers, promoters, agents and industry partners.
- Grow referral and partnership arrangements.
- Keep in touch with past and existing clients and spot repeat and additional business.
Proposals and Closing
- Work with the Events Team to turn a client brief into a solution that wins.
- Prepare and present proposals, quotations and pitches.
- Follow up properly, negotiate commercial terms and close.
- Hand over won business cleanly, so delivery goes as sold.
Marketing and Social Selling
- Use LinkedIn actively to identify, engage and stay visible to potential clients.
- Support targeted email campaigns and sector marketing.
- Contribute to case studies and content that make the group easier to sell.
- Monitor local and sector news for openings: expansions, funding rounds, anniversaries, launches, tours.
Reporting
- Keep the CRM up to date and accurate.
- Track enquiries, opportunities and conversion through the pipeline.
- Report on activity, pipeline and results.
What We Are Looking For
The personality matters more to us than the CV. You should be:
- Confident starting conversations with people you have never met.
- Naturally curious about businesses, brands and what makes people book.
- Professional and articulate in front of senior decision-makers.
- Comfortable on the telephone and on LinkedIn.
- Persistent without being pushy.
- Organised, with follow-up that never slips.
- Commercially minded and motivated by hitting targets.
- Resilient, and able to move on quickly from a no.
- Happy to work the occasional evening: this industry does business at events.
Useful but not essential: B2B sales experience, events, hospitality, venue or music industry background, CRM experience, a full driving licence and access to a car.
What You Will Get
- A basic salary plus uncapped commission, so strong performance pays properly.
- Three distinct businesses to sell, and a genuinely varied working week.
- Direct access to the Managing Director and Head of Events, and real influence over how we go to market.
- Structured development, including apprenticeship-funded training where appropriate, covering consultative selling, pipeline management, social selling, negotiation and commercial awareness.
- Time with the Events Team so you understand exactly what you are selling and how it is delivered.
- A clear route on: Business Development Executive to Business Development Manager to Senior Business Development Manager, with account management and commercial leadership open beyond that.
How We Will Measure Success
Targets will be set to your level and reviewed as you grow. We will look at:
- Qualified new prospects identified and quality conversations held.
- Discovery meetings and show-rounds arranged.
- Proposals issued and conversion rate.
- New clients secured and new business revenue, across all three divisions.
- Pipeline accuracy and CRM discipline.
- Networking and relationship activity.
What Success Really Looks Like
Success here is not hundreds of meaningless calls. It is knowing which organisations are worth going after, finding the right person inside them, starting a conversation worth having, and turning that into business the group would not otherwise have won.
We want someone confident enough to open doors, commercially sharp enough to recognise an opportunity when it is half-said, and credible enough to sit in front of a marketing director, a venue partner or a promoter and be taken seriously.
If that sounds like you, we would like to hear from you.
ROAR Events Agency is committed to building a team on merit and to supporting the development of everyone who joins us.
