General

West Hill Park School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children. All posts at West Hill Park require staff to conduct themselves in a highly professional manner when dealing with children, parents, and colleagues. Staff are expected to appreciate and promote the ethos and image of the School and ensure that, through their actions and words, they represent the School positively at all times. Disciplinary action may be taken against staff who bring the School's name into disrepute.

Staff are expected to be aware of their own health and safety responsibilities and those of others around them, taking all reasonable steps to ensure that no one is placed in danger.

Main Responsibilities

The Site Maintenance Operative is responsible to the Estates Manager for ensuring that the School buildings and facilities are maintained in a serviceable, safe, and visually attractive manner. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Ensuring that the fabric of the School and its grounds are at all times serviceable, safe, and visually attractive. The term "fabric" includes all buildings, roads, paths, grounds, facilities, and equipment on site.
Carrying out first-line repairs and maintenance to the fabric of the School, particularly those affecting the health and safety of staff, pupils, and visitors, as directed by the Estates Manager.
Carrying out modifications and alterations to the fabric of the School as agreed with the Estates Manager and within the technical and physical capabilities of staff and contractors.
Work alongside the grounds department to assist with keeping the site litter free, and helping with general grounds day to day jobs.
Maintaining the workshop in a safe and tidy condition.
Ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.
Carrying out general day-to-day duties, including parcel deliveries, setting up for school assemblies & events.
Assisting with weekly testing of the School's fire alarm system at a time agreed with the Estates Manager.
Undertaking painting and decorating work in line with plans agreed by the Estates Manager.
Attending, with reasonable notice, off-site and/or residential training courses relevant to the role.
Taking personal responsibility for ensuring that all required training and qualifications remain current and compliant with relevant legislation, and informing the Estates Manager in a timely manner when renewals are required.
Following appropriate training or existing qualifications, carrying out regular Legionella testing as agreed with the Estates Manager.
Following appropriate training, carrying out daily swimming pool water tests when required, recording results accurately, and reporting any adverse readings to the Estates Manager immediately.
Cleaning and vacuuming the swimming pool and poolside areas and ensuring that maintenance tasks are completed in accordance with health and safety standards.
Providing cover for the maintenance and safety of the School during periods of absence by the Estates Manager.
Assisting with the setup of facilities and equipment for events throughout the School's annual calendar, including occasional work outside normal school hours.
Assisting in maintaining the presentation of the School grounds, including general gardening duties as required.
Supporting other departments with their maintenance and safety requirements.
Working occasional weekends and out-of-hours when required, with prior notice.
Carrying out any other reasonable duties that may, from time to time, be requested by the Estates Manager or the Senior Management Team.

Pay: £26,500.00 per year
