About the Role
We're looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Credit Control Assistant to join our friendly Finance team.
This is an entry-level position with full training provided, making it an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to develop a career in finance. You'll work closely with our Credit Manager, learning all aspects of Accounts Receivable and Credit Control while gaining valuable experience in a supportive team environment.
Our Finance team consists of eight people, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to learn, ask questions and develop your skills.
What You'll Be Doing
- Supporting the day-to-day management of the sales ledger.
- Contacting UK and international customers by telephone, email and letter to collect outstanding payments.
- Building positive relationships with customers and internal teams.
- Posting customer payments and allocating cash receipts.
- Investigating and resolving invoice queries.
- Assisting with raising credit notes for customer accounts, returns and disputes.
- Setting up new customer accounts in line with company procedures.
- Assisting with credit checks, reviewing payment histories and obtaining trade references.
- Reconciling customer accounts.
- Supporting payment plan arrangements under the guidance of the Credit Manager.
- Helping ensure company credit policies and financial controls are followed.
- Attending weekly debtor meetings.
- Assisting with a variety of finance projects as required.
What We're Looking For
No previous Credit Control experience is necessary—we'll provide full training.
We're looking for someone who has:
- A minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including Maths and English at Grade 5/C or above.
- Confidence speaking to customers on the telephone.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Basic Microsoft Office and Excel skills, with an eagerness to develop further.
- Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A proactive approach to solving problems.
